Picturing The Blues – and other related stuff
A pop-up exhibition ‘Picturing the Blues’ showcasing the work of Paul Marsh will be held at the Bohemia Village Voice, 79 Bohemia Road St. Leonards on Sea on Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th. of November.
Paul has been a devotee of Delta Blues since his early teens but was inspired to pick up pencil ,crayon and brush to try and capture the character and essence of Blind Blake, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Missippi John Hurt and Blind Willie McTell.
There are very few pictures of some of the early bluesmen – just two known of Robert Johnson for example – so Paul has worked from these scarce sources and lovingly recreated their images with a freshness and zest that lets their character shine through. Clever use of background paper, crayon and charcoal gives the works a luminous quality.
Paul, handles skin tones from sepia photographic originals particularly well, but as this exhibition shows he is equally adept at capturing the essence of more contemporary artists from Amy Winehouse to the Beatles in brightly-lit, brightly coloured settings.
The exhibition will be open from Noon to 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Refreshments will be available.
