Roger Carey – Burns ‘Sonic’ bass guitar Oct 1973

supplied by Roger Carey

Roger Carey… October 1973, with my left hand Burns ‘Sonic’ bass guitar, which I played upside down for several years.

Martin Richter… nice axe

Pete Fisher… great photo…Pueblo days!

Phil Gill… He was only ever allowed to practice in the garden, bless him.

Pete Fisher… one advantage of those curly leads we had back then…

Sarah Harvey… Too much playing guitar young man and never looking after the bloody garden by the looks of it!

Phil Gill… 20 years later, Rog was so used to outdoor practice, he found it difficult to adjust.

Iain Cobby… I had a red one (had it sprayed white at cave road motors). really well made, but try to put a set of Rotosound strings through the machines…………… no way.

Glenn Piper… I remember that bass

Alan King… I’ve never played guitar upside down ! I’ve played an upside down guitar though but………… (tumbleweed)…….

Liane Carroll… Beautiful x

Pete Fisher… Don’t know if you can remember/confirm Iain but I bought my first (no-name) electric from the army surplus-type shop in the High Street, and I believe you helped me strip it down and respray it matt black…played it with you and Bernie in Black Ash, 1970…

Roger Carey… Hi Sarah, you took that picture! Hi Phil you took the black and white pic in your garden a year earlier! That’s my Futurama (Fender style!) Yes Pete F, I was in Pueblo with you and Bern Jeffrey from 73 -4, preceded by “Mae West” ( provisionally titled band with Kevin Wood 1972 -two gigs before “split due to musical differences”! The pic of Phil Gill and I -another garden-Phil’s -check those neat 80’s hairdos! Around 1990 I guess…

Liane Carrol… Jelly babies!!!…….

Phil Gill… Summer 1992 I think Roger, that was the year I bought the red Strat. We had the extension built in ’93 and the garden was tidier by then. I love all these old pics.

Terry Pack… I first heard/saw you play with Pueblo, Roger. I think at was at The Carlisle. I was 15. You played Catcote Rag. Frightened the life out of me! I went home and practised for a year after that!

Iain Cobby… Sorry Pete, I don’t remember it, I don’t think it was me, but strangely enough my first electric 6 string and amp was from smiths shop, it looked like steptoe & sons inside as I recall with lots of reading material of various pursuits ………………

Roger Carey… Hi Pete the pic of Pueblo with you Bern Jeffrey and me is at The Langham, a party gig we played there in Nov 73- from series of photos I have. Don’t think we played Carlisle since pub gigs hadn’t really taken off then. Terry may have seen us at Battle Langton Hall or the Pier , or Ore Centre-these were the sort of venues we did and Ore Centre was our weekly rehearsal place…

Phil Gill… He was never open whenever I went there to browse, he was always in the pub.

Pete Fisher… Long time ago Iain – maybe I’m mistaken – that was definitely the shop though – had to borrow the ten quid for the guitar off my Dad, who came down to the shop with me to check it out, and was rather horrified to see the pile of greatcoats etc. in the middle almost touching the ceiling…
