Chris Baker… Aaaagh! So very long ago! Town Council at Camber Sands. We played there twice a week for a couple of summers. Must be late 60s I think. Great days.
Left to right: Steve Hersee, Brian *Bear” Williams, Bob Shipway, Pete Robertson and Chris Baker.
Chris Baker…. A more respectable studio shot of The Town Council. Taken by G.Ivan Barnett and a very blurry one in the basement practice room at the Round Table Youth Club. Amazing!
Sarah Harvey….Funny thing about this picture is that I bought that PA amp off them all those years ago… have no idea who I sold it on to. It was such a great PA. Got a cheap old Peavey PA now
Chris Baker….Excellent ! It was a great PA for its time. We bought it in Totteham Court Road and humped it and two very heavy columns back home on the Tube and Train! Got a few sideways looks from our fellow passengers.
Ralph Town…Thats a memory,Chris.I think all desperate musos did the same thing at some point.I remember hulking a Burns bass,in vinyl bag, strapped to my back and 80watt transistor amp all over Hastings and St Leonards care of M&D buses. My back never fully recovered lol
Chris Baker….The columns were hand made and so big and heavy that we looked more like travelling undertakers than musicians. Had some fun leaving Brian on the platform at one station as we all tried to cram it on the tube at the last minute. He was supposed to get on last, but the doors shut before he could get on
Andre Palfrey-martin collection
Andre Martin…..Here you go from 1st April 1968 – these 2 groups keep popping up, often together.
Chris Baker….I think I remember that gig, if it was in London Road.
Andy Knight…. Just remembered Steve H, where are they now?
Jon McCallion… Fond memories, Brian’s dad Harry used to manage us before Alan Esdaile Johnny Mason. We had the same selmer amp as well by the looks of things.
Geoff Peckham… I’ve mentioned this before, but I auditioned as rhythm guitarist with these guys when I was about 15. I remember it was in a kitchen with bass player (Bob) and Bear, the drummer. They asked me to play songs with augmented chords in like “Fire Brigade” and “Got to Get You Into My Life”. I thought I did well but didn’t get the gig!
Chris Baker… I had no idea that ever happened Geoff! After I left? I suppose 2 good looking ones out of 5 ain’t bad! 🙂 Above around 67/68. Tee hee! If you can remember the 60s you weren’t really there! 🙂
Pete Robertson… Chris Baker, where are you now? Long time no see or hear. Is this the Andy Knight who played drums many years ago? Steve Hersee is a highly acclaimed professor at New Mexico University, but Bear Williams died some years ago. I know nothing of Bob Shipway. I am a retired civil servant now after many years as Production Manager of the Observer Newspapers where I started in 1966.
Chris Baker… Pete Robertson? Blast from the past indeed! Wish I could retire myself. No such luck! Blimey! Pete Robertson! Not heard a peep out of you for yonks! 🙂 How the hell are you? I live in Aston Clinton near Aylesbury now. Have a 2nd wife and a 24 year old daughter. Where did the time go? 🙂
Alan Esdaile… Is that the Burns Bison that Bob Shipway has that Terry Corder and Geoff Peckham were talking about in a previous post?
Geoff Peckham… I do believe it is, Alan.
Chris Baker… Bob was a big fan of that bass. Had a Baldwin speaker cabinet which you can just see bottom right. Great sound!
Phil Gill… Chris Baker, do you still have that Hofner?
Chris Baker… I have Phil. It’s Polychromatic Mauve apparently. Brian “Bear”, Williams got it done for me when he worked at Rye Arc Welding, at Rock-a-nore
