Martin Richter…. saturdays

Clare Bennett… I remember dancing a lot in Scalliwags

Jules Stretton… Hastings seafront my parents used to party there ! X

John Storer… Definitely Saturdays …. we had our joint Stag & Hen night there in August 79

Yvonne Cleland… Reminds me of Bonitas or Aquarius…

Margaret Fletcher… Not Saturday

Rilka Brignall… Looks like saturdays to me

Peter Millington… Could that be Chris Glazier spinning plastic – Scalliwags perhaps?

Kevin Burchett… its definitly not scalliwags its saturdays

Alan Esdaile…  Thinking now this could be Aquarius which was what Saturday’s was called previously in the 70’s.

Kevin Burchett… Its Saturdays because of the lights no one had lights like that in Hastings then or now

Phil Gill… Could be the one at the back of Wellington Square that’s now a curry house.  It was always too loud for meaningful conversation, so I just used to listen to the music. If you listen carefully, you can spot the little disco funk references Steve and I worked into some of the Stallion songs. It’s very subtle, but it’s there. We were very cheeky. Well, two that spring to mind…listen to the bass and drums on Arsony in the UK, which is basically sped up disco funk followed by a 50s doo wop chorus. And on the live version of Cobra, we referenced Oops Upside Your Head.

Alan Esdaile… Was the club in Wellington Square called Courtneys?

Kevin Burchett… heres another pic from the opposition Saturdays lol.its a promo pic from the 1975 opening. with the lovely Leigh Wieland-Boys

Peter Millington… I recognise the waitress – anyone know her name?

Leigh Wieland-Boys….It’s me Peter! Lx

Terry Johns… This is Saturdays. I worked there from 1979 until 1982 the manager was Dennis Murray Jim Green bars manager, Denny Flanagan was the head doorman. The first record I played on the massive 600 watt mono sound system was Good Times by Chic. It was owened by a company called Goodhews they also owend the Old Pump House. Also the club in castle hill road was Courtneys.

Martyn Baker… Hahaha! We all remember those legendary funk merchants…….Wait for it…………Stallion! Jeeeeeeeeeeeez talk about re-writing history!

Steve Kinch… Leigh, looking every bit as glamorous as I remember xx

Leigh Wieland Boys… Thank you Steve – I was the tender age of 19! 40 years ago…wonder what happened to her!! Lxx

Mark F Williams… Terry Johns , Did you use to be the dj at the Fox and Hounds Chessington back in the mid seventies ? Contact has now been made.

Ernest Ballard… I recognise the two sisters at the front. Tracy and Jenette from Eastbourne circa. 1977 I would say. I was maybe there that night. But can’t remember where it is.

Stuart Moir… I seem to remember that style of decor in the complex on Bexhill seafront which had a bar and some shops, can’t recall the name but the function room was at the back of the building, CP played there many times for private functions

Wendy Weaver… The Continental was on Bexhill seafront.

Kevin Burchett…  its definitly Saturdays<

Nicola Dobson… I remember the Continental.

Vic Williams… I was the dj for one night only at Saturday’s in Hastings way back in time. Why ?. I can’t recall as , at the time , I was the resident dj at “Tuesday’s discotheque” high wycombe in bucks . Maybe the resident dj at Saturday’s was sick or something like that. !!! . Prior to that I was the resident dj at another of goodhews discotheques called “ fridays” I; Southampton. All this is in the past as I’m now 67 and a pensionist but wow….. some fantastic memories of those times. I notice in the photo at Saturday’s , that there are two of the operations directors Athol Souter and Ray Bain either side of Jim Hetreed. Jim later became the manager of Tuesday’s high wycombe , taking over from Roger Atkins who was previously the manager of the barn in penzance ( another of goodhews discotheques) . Keith Hardy was the entertainments manager at the time and the last I heard was that he was destitute and living in the back of a car. . That’s sad as he was a decent bloke. His sidekick was a young guy called dick carrier , known as “ dicky mint” . Thanks for the photos Vic James ( ex dj Tuesday’s and Fridays) Real name vic williams .

Leigh Wieland-Boys… Vic do you remember Cheeky Petes I am sure it was another Goodhews venue – think it was in Richmond. We had staff evenings out on a Sunday and were taken by coach to various Goodhews nightclubs, including Tuesday’s & Friday’s. Happy days

Jeff Belton… Is that Syd Little ?

Patricia Wapshott… Definitely Saturday’s snuck in there for the first time when I was just sixteen 1976 and went there every weekend after that but can’t remember what year it closed . Loved disco music , still do , didn’t all of us oldies live through the best of times musically .

Ernest Ballard… I was probably there that night having a boogie

Vic Williams… Yes Leigh I do remember cheeky Pete’s and brollys in Richmond . Another successful goodhews venue .

Terry Hardwick… That’s me DJing at Saturdays. I worked as a dj in all of the clubs you mentioned.

Vic Williams… Further to my earlier post where the photograph showed jim hetreed at Saturday’s in Hastings , I have found another one of Jim ( in the between me and the bars manager bob) prior to us all leaving Tuesday’s high wycombe to move up to Birmingham and to open a new discotheque called “Thursday’s “ in smallbrook queensway in the city centre. Photo from circa 1978/79.

Sharon Lee… Saturday’s nightclub in George Street was the best, use to go there lots back in 1984. with 50p a pint Tuesdays. Colin Russell was the regular DJ. John Digweed was a guest DJ who I believe went on to big things. I remember the glass collector Leke Fashola would be great to know how he’s doing all these years later

Martin Richter… annaleke fashola – what a lovely geezer – and a great blues guitarist – i’m hoping Sharon is the Sharon I think she is .

Terry Hardwick… John Digweed was the resident DJ for a while. Barry Page was another resident DJ when Saturdays was taken over by Bob Faulkner and Keith Hardy .

Martin Richter… Barry was possibly the best dj I have ever seen – sorry Terry

Terry Hardwick… Yep he was very good but not the best . Freddie Janson Gary Bates or Peter Tate all great Goodhews club D Js the best I have seen and I have seen a lot also Alan Sands he was special. I’m far from the best. Colin is doing realy well in London . Goodhews were the Company that owened Saturdays and about another fifty clubs around the uk.

Joe Knight… Stairs could be a problem if you upset the Bouncers

Sharon Lee… Martin Richter, Im not sure if the Sharon you are thinking of and I didn’t realise Leke Fashola played the guitar,  if you are in touch with him can you tell him i said hello.

Martin Richter… Sharon – were you his girlfriend ? he was a lovely blues player – technically superb 🙂

Sharon Lee.. Yes Martin Richter i was for a little while,  lovely guy Leke,  never knew he played guitar perhaps he started after, would of loved to have seen that,  have very fond memories

Tony Court-holmes… happy days

Lisa Creek… In reply to Vic Williams… Hi Vic , do you have any photos of Tuesdays by any chance ?

Tony Court-holmes… I think the guy on the right with the grey jumper on is me. The reason being i can not dance so what hell am i doing on the dance floor must have been pissed

Tasha… Someone please bring back Saturdays

Conan Howard… look how slim all the girls are? you would not be able to fit more than two or three of todays girls in there now

Ernest Ballard… Two girls at the front are sisters from Eastbourne.

Kenny Gee… …about Keith Hardy, mentioned above by Vic Williams… does anyone know if he was the same guy who used to dj at The Zodiac club, above The Top Rank Suite in West Croydon in 1972/73 – and also what happened to him?

Martin Richter… very probably – there was a rumour that he passed earlier this year – unconfirmed

Janet Cruttenden… I think the one in the far left might be me

Caroline Jones… Looks like you and little Jean Janet x

Andy Burtenshaw… Best disco in 70’s I went to loads but the best was cheeky Petes in Richmond plus broly’s, great times

Nigel Ford… Took Cathy there for a second date in Nov ’77 ( Saturday the 12th I think) after our first date the evening before…..partly at the Sundowners, Eastbourne, celebrated our Ruby wedding last July.

Jane Wiltshire… I was a student nurse in Hastings between 1981-1985 and spent many a night down Saturdays, drinking and dancing till the early hours, followed by an early shift! Fantastic memories

Janine Hemsley… Great days x

Yvonne Hemsley… Loved Scallys and remember Chris R.I.P who used to be a bar tender till him and his Wife Sally ran the Nags Head for years x

Terry Hardwick… (in reply to Mark F Williams) Yes I did, I started it

Allan Mitchell… Great picture

Colin Hinchliffe… Just an update, Keith Hardy passed away in Mid 2019, he was living in Lymington, in the 70’s he was a DJ in Croydon
