Who remembers seeing them at Pissarros in the 1990’s?

Mary Lipscombe… Yes! We had one of their songs at our wedding! They went to Pissarros after they played at the Stag

Mick Bolton… Saw them a couple of times…brilliant band.

Geoff Peckham… Never saw them, but I played a lot from the late nineties onwards with the man on the right. He’s a very good piano accordionist called Will Southcote-Want.

Ticket supplied by Paul Sleet

Black and Blue album was released just before this tour

Yvonne Cleland…  I was in the front row for this gig, even in front of the tightly-linked row of bouncers! I nearly got suffocated, but Mick Jagger leered at me, I swear he did!

Nigel Ford… Perhaps he thought he’d seen a white Marsha Hunt, Yvonne?

Yvonne Cleland… Oi! Cheeky!

John Paul Veness… was at this one too ,still one of the best gigs i’ve ever seen 🙂

Pete Fisher… I went on May 21st, when the only good thing was the Meters as support, and then again at Knebworth in August, where they came on two hours late because they couldn’t wake Keef up, and they were really rough again, but they were both great concerts!!

Yvonne Cleland…I saw them at Knebworth too! Yes, they were! My kids go to Knebworth now, but I think it’s been rebranded as ‘Download’ or something.

Tim Phillips… Alan I picked these up the other day…

Pete Fisher… They played 6 nights at Earls Court…I was there too, and remember they tried to give the event a bit of a circus atmosphere with clowns etc wandering round beforehand…unfortunately the acoustics/PA sound were abysmal, as was the case the previous year when I saw Led Zep there two nights running. The Stones were pretty sloppy and disappointing, but I guess the occasion won the day. Highlight for me was The Meters as support – superb, tight, funky, making the Stones sound like amateurs. I also went to Knebworth 3 months later, where we all waited over two hours for the Stones to come on, and again they sounded really rough. They finally redeemed themselves when I saw them at Wembley Stadium in 1990, where they were on top form, tight and professional, and again in 1999 in Cologne…

Alan King… I was at Knebworth and fell asleep

Who remembers the Provincial Hotel Havelock Road Hastings?

Keith Veness… I do

Mike Mitchell… The Golden Hind?

Neal Hunter… I do

Patricia Lloyd… Me

Tony Court-holmes… had a snooker table out the back

Jackie Hersee… I do

Stephanie Blackledge… Me too. Used to work in Havelock Road

Mark Harris… Right next door to Frank Bettis Autos! I believe Frank used to ride speedway at the old Pilot Field track.

Richard J Porter… Eddie Bartholomew from Cranbrook took on Frank Bettis Autos. Behind there in Robertson Street my wife’s Father had Coopers the Greengocers.

Mick Knights… My shoes always stuck to the carpet!!

Ian Cramp… I think so, I lived in Hastings until 1982 was it there then?

Alan Esdaile… I think it was The Golden Hind then Ian.

Kev Towner… Ooh – before my time. Fascinating though!!

Martin Richter… I’ve got a brochure for it somewhere!

Paul Sleet… Used to play for their snooker team. Bill and Anne Bailey were the licensees.

Richard J Porter… Hollingsworths too when they were there.

Alan Esdaile… My friend Don Bailey’s mum and dad used to run it. When the pub was closed, we used to play bar billiards.

Paul Slidel… I wonder what year the Golden Hind took over? I don’t remember this hotel, but used the Hind a lot! Is this late 60s?

Alan Esdaile… This is probably mid sixties Paul and The Golden Hind around 78/79???

Martin Richter… Stevie D

Wendy Weaver… I think it was The Golden Hind when I came down to live in Hastings in 1978/79.

Who remembers Green Shield Stamps?

Hastings Tesco advert 1964

Leigh Wieland-Boys… Yep! Bought a porcelain horse!

Flanko Fin Barr… yep i still got a panda my mum got me back in the 60s.

Lucy Pappas… I remember filling up books and books of greenshield stamps. No idea what we swapped them for!

Alan Esdaile… Remember going for an interview for a warehouse job in the Green Shield Stamp shop in Castle Street. Queued with others for about a hour and when it was my turn, they said I was too young for the job but gave me a cigarette for waiting!

Mark Gilham… I remember getting into huge trouble trying to cash these in at Wadhurst Post Office when I was about 8

Jim Breeds… As far as i recall the first supermarket in Hastings was Victor Value, and when it closed G S opened their shop there. Now Argos.

Pete Fairless… We used to go to Fine Fare in Queens Road

Mick O’Dowd… Yes!

Angela Frances Gardner… Got them from Tesco’s and petrol stations! My mum exchanged loads of stamps for all sorts of stuff !

Mark Randall… Have I posted my ‘The Book of Saliva’ comment before?

Diane Knight…  Used to love filling these books …no idea what for ..but my mum always had a bag of books !!😂

Barry Upton… Bring it back. Bloody sight better than life today

Dave Nattress… I think….there was once a rival S and H Pink Stamps – genuine I think. Also did not the small Green Shield Stamps eventually change size – becoming bigger and having a different design.

Sarah Harvey… I remember playing a ‘Green Shield Stamp’ Fruit machine down at the Hastings Leisure Centre (Beneath Aquarius). Rather than pay out money when you won, it paid out Green Shield Stamps……. there was an S&H Pink Stamp Fruit Machine too. The exchange for Green Sheild Gifts in Hastings was the shop that is now Argos.

Jan Warren… used to love them, saved them all the time for things, much better than the “reward” cards we get now

Eugene Hughes… What about pink stamps too! Weren’t they from Fine Fare?

Planets – Mins studio 1974

Paul Edmonds, Chris Meachen, Paul Waite, Les Norman, Min

Gerry Fortsch… I was friendly with min and then lost contact, can someone tell me what happened to him please?

Glenn Piper… Sorry Gerry, but Min died several years ago now, heart attack I think

Gerry Fortsch… I remember he enjoyed life a lot, as did many of us at the time, thank you.

Martin Richter… simon medhurst ?

Harry Randall… Is that Min on the Clarinet? Went onto Sax?

Chris Baker… Min always played both Sax and Clarinet AFAIK. He was an excellent gold and silversmith too. Loved him.

Peter Norman… Never seen this before but that could be my brother Les Norman in that photo…? I know he played the guitar back then, next time i see him i’ll ask! 🙁 Sadly he’s not on facebook.., 🙁 I believe he also played in a group called “SUS” or something like that!

Alan Esdaile… t must be him Peter, as it says he was in Suss in the write up, underneath the photo. It would be great if you could get some comments from him about the group.

Pete Fisher… On seeing this I thought that guy on the drums looks familiar…nestling among my photos of Pueblo (taken by Chris Meachen), the photo I’m posting below has puzzled me for decades, as I couldn’t remember who it was. It must be around ’73/’74, but I only vaguely remember we might have experimented briefly with having two drummers, and I guess it was Paul Waite. Maybe Bernard Jeffery, Roger Carey or Phil Gill could fill in more details…

Bernard Goffredo… Yes I remember doing a gig at the college and we experimented with two drummers, and definitely was Paul on the other kit

Chris Meachen…  Ye gods, I’d completely forgotten about this.. Used to bump into Les in record shops a few years ago, but not seen him in ages.. (nor anyone else in these pics..). Yes, one of my pictures, but further details completely escape me.. If I manage to find that sequence of negatives I might be able to add some context…

Phil Gill… Paul Edmonds on the far left. Pete, we played a couple of times in the college basement, where the band was you and me on guitar, Roger Carey, and two drummers, Paul Waite and Bernie Jeffries. No idea what we called the band.

Jan Warren…  I remember Min, nice guy

Sam Davies… you know I’ve never heard of this particular band so this is fascinating! Does anyone know if there are any recordings of Planets? It’d be great to hear my old man playing some clarinet. Also, where was this studio? I don’t recognise it.

Chris Meachen… no recordings, I regret, but the studio was actually your grandfather’s, & was upstairs in a building next door to St Clements Church Hall in Croft Road..

Jan Warren… I lived in Queens Road and Middle Street in the early 70s and I remember Min, he was a friend, bless him

Chris Meachen… Weirdly, I bumped into Les Norman yesterday evening, doing his Aldi shopping.. Can’t have seen him for a good 20 years, so a nice surprise..

Stephen Fletcher… The other guy in photo is Paul Edmunds you didn’t mention him

Chris Meachen… Haven’t seen Paul Edmunds since the late 1970’s when we worked together at Arbuthnot House.. He changed his surname to his dad’s, – Wojciechowska, (pronounced ‘voy-ge-hoff-ski). Always regret losing touch with him & many other mates…

Stephen Fletcher… Anyone know if Paul Edmunds is still around or if he moved away?
