Jive Rock & Twist – Market Hall George Street Hastings – Johnny Smith & The D.J.4

Lloyd Johnson… I remember going to this! Johnny Smith at one ends of the hall and The Talismen at the other. I can remember Henry Harvey standing in front of Johnny Smith’s group making it really obvious in a jokey way he was watch the guitarist fingers on the neck of the guitar, he would try and make them laugh when they were really concentrating on the difficult bits….great nights!…I seem to remember a milk bottle behind the amps….

Graham Sharp…  the band was subsequently known as The Chevs. John had a song called “Brown Boots” which was based on ‘Wish I could shimmy like my sister Kate’. The first line was “I Wish I Could Play Guitar Like Joe Brown”. I can recite the lyrics – the Band I was in adopted the song
