Ya Yas with Tich Turner – Royal Albert Deptford. mid 80’s

Yvonne Cleland… Aw! Go Tich! In fine voice, fella x

Alamo Leal… Real good to see Tich at it again !

Ian McGilvray… Nice One Tich

John Wilde… Hot stuff Tich.. lets see some more!

Mark Gilham… Great!

Colin Fox… Great to see Tich is still rockin´. Haven´t seen him for over 20 years and that was at one of the colleges in Meads Eastbourne.

Alan Esdaile… The mans got soul.

Martyn Baker… Tich Turner was the best soul singer I ever worked with. Or was it Martin Stringer? Or Pete Prescott? All of them were just great to be in the same band with – Steppin’ Out.

Pete Prescott… I never understood why I was in the band to be honest. Tich was amazing !

Martyn Baker…   We always HAD to have two lead singers Pete Prescott. It was our thing – you know, to bounce all that energy back and forth on stsge. Also, none of the other Hastings bands had that! Tee Hee!

Andy Knight…Great Band, Great Bloke Tich

Tich Turner… Blimey! I’m not sure I knew this existed. The guitarist is Geoff Sample, Geoff played with us early on, left and then came back as our sound engineer. Then, when we went on our 2nd Dutch tour, he re-joined rather unexpectedly, when our new guitarist had some sort of malfunction after the first gig, and just buggered off. John had to drive and Simon sat in the back teaching Geoff all the new songs. When we got to the gigs, we set up, Geoff set the desk, and then just asked a member of the audience at each gig to just control the volume as he was back on stage with us. Absolute madness! Trevor Walter is on drums, and is now with me again in HiFi Sneakers, John Stephens on keys, the bass player with the luxuriant moustache was my great pal Simon Cowderoy who sadly passed away in 2015. On trumpet is Tony Hepworth and the sax player is Martin Winning, who went on to play with Van The Man and then John Martyn. This was the first band I got involved with when I came to London around 1982. We had seven wonderful years together. The guitarists and the horns change fairly regularly, otherwise we all stayed together. Wonderful times.

  1. Blimey! I’m not sure I knew this existed. I can assure you though, this wasn’t from 2014, this would have been around the mid 80’s.
