The Beatles Help film – Gaiety Cinema Hastings August 1965

Jim Breeds… I went to see this film (And A Hard Day’s Night) at The Gaiety. On one of those occasions (I can’t remember which), the circus came to town on the same day and while we were queuing up outside the cinema, my little cousin who was with us spotted the elephants walking along Queens Road and got very excited that they were The Beatles! She’d been told we were going to see the Beatles but was young enough not to know who or what these “Beatles” actually looked like.

Alan King… go to the window

Martin Richter… Leo McKern and Eastman Colour – two of the greats 🙂

Dave Nattress… Yes, would have seen Help in Bexhill with friends from school and previously Hard Days Night same place. Great films sort of their time but great chronicles of an era in 60’s music and film combined.  For me HDN the film and album has the edge on the songs compared to Help.  Most, simple, great harmonies. From then on naturally the true and utterly unique talent of The Beatles really seemed to start the clear progression in their music that then continued right through to (for me) a premature break up and end and actually through a lot of albums and more films in a very short space of time.
