Hawkwind Gigs – 3rd August 1972, 18th June 1977, 1st Sept 1973

all cuttings Sarah Harvey, autograph supplied by Roger Carey

Andy Qunta….Met Tex, bass player for Ace, at a Factory gig in Lancashire, Burnley I think. They had just signed their record deal. Was very envious of them of course, but Tex was a lovely guy, very encouraging & not at all big-headed!

Geoff Peckham….Yes, I remember him too. He came to see us back stage in Burnley (Black hill Miners’ Social Club I think). A really jolly guy and liked our music. I loved his effectively simple bass-line on “How Long”.

Mick O’Dowd….Ace were a good band if i’ve got the right one! How Long springs to mind.Paul Carrack was singer. Seems a strange support to Hawkwind though.

Clifford Rose…..June 18th,  Yes, the Hawkwind concert was 77 with Motorhead as the support group.

Yvonne Cleland…..That doesn’t sound right! Lemmy formed Motorhead after he left Hawkwind, didn’t he?

Tim Moose Bruce…..77 is right. I went to that gig.(my 1st time at the the pier. mum warned me to be careful with the loud volumes these bands can create. “Yes mum”. Yawn… Went to gig, Motorhead came on…….

Alan Esdaile… When Roger Carey said he had an autograph from the pier from Hawkwind in 1972, I thought it would be Lemmy but turns out to be the dancer Stacia.

Alan Oliver… I was at that Hawkwind 72 gig. Wish I could find the girl I went with, we lost touch in 1973. If anyone knows Jayne Beeson (as was) I’d love to see how her life turned out!

Lucy Pappas… I remember that gig, too. Loved it!

Kevin Burchett… I was there to.

Martin Richter… peace and love 🙂

Gary Kinch… I was there and I had to go to work the next day. That was a struggle.

Martyn Baker… I was there aged 13. Stacia’s! First fanny I ever saw.

Carol Arnold… Ahhh i was there, great.

Andy Qunta… Think I was there too! Don’t remember seeing what Martyn Baker saw though! 😉

Martyn Baker… You must have been in the bar Andy. Chris Wood will verify!

Dave Nattress… Definitely saw Hawkwind a couple of times or more even on the pier – very hazy though and didn’t see Ace, so must have been the later gigs. I had also learned from pervy mates that Stacia danced nude and recall this but visually it was hazy as well as sonically. As I sort of recall she was a statuesque lady indeed. I say this respectfully. Saw Paul Carrack at Bexhill De La Warr a few months back. He still does a cracking version of How Long introducing it as the first song he wrote for Ace.

Jo Turner… Oh yes

Tim Moose Bruce… One of the best light shows I have seen. Loads of projector images.

Kevin Harmer… awesome band.

Richard Martin… Since Hawkwind at Croydon Fairfield Halls 2/9/73 was my first gig at the tender age of 13 I’ve always been curious as to the support was since this would have been my very first exposure to live music. I cannot find this info anywhere!

Keith Veness… We were there great night

Charlie Ball… We were there

Tony Court-holmes… yes i was there, a good night

Nigel Ford… I was at all three, one of them was where they came out and told us all to sit down so that everyone could see, and indeed that was what happened, probably where they did “Space Ritual” in it’s entirety. Absolutely packed. Stacia has had her own gallery in Scandinavia for years I believe. When MOtORHEAD supported they returned about a month later & headlined with “Count Bishops” supporting that Lemmy was in too, if I remember correctly?

Peter Houghton… Yes Motorhead and Hawkwind on the same stage was one amazing concert. I was there and got my album In Search Of Space where Lemmy signed over the guy he replaced

Tim Moose Bruce… Went to this. I was 16, and my first taste of a rock gig. My mum said beware of loud volume. “Yes mum.” On came support. Motorhead. Nearly blew me back across the road and into the white rock theatre. Hawkwinds light show was amazing with the projectors.

Sandi Carlyon… I was there.

Tony Court-holmes… remember that night

John Wilde… I was there

Yvonne Cleland… I was there.

Lucy Pappas… A fantastic gig!

Conan Howard… god they were awful when I saw them somewhere in Plumstead in a tin hut in 1970 something, We left after 15 minutes

Ralph Town… Am I right in thinking The Stranglers were support?

Alan Esdaile… Motorhead supporting on the 18th June 1977 Ralph.

Roger Collier… I saw them in Manchester 3 months later, just after Marc Bolan’s crash. Still have the bootleg tapes…
