Roy Penfold… We’ve had a discussion about this building over in the Historical Hastings group and it would appear to have been demolished in the late 1970s/early 1980s. There is a modern house now on the site with the same name and the allotments off Rotherfield Avenue carry on the name of Fernbank.
Mick O’Dowd… 2 of my 3 children were born there. Always remember the ward floor sloping towards the window. Scary!

Cherry Finch… Ha ha… I was born there September 1968. It looks well rough in the picture.. but my Mum swears blind it was like a holiday camp for expectant mothers. Yr 1st was born in the Buchannan. After that you were a seasoned baby machine so they’d send you to Fernbank Maternity Home. Lol. Mum said.. back then during the summer…you’d pop yr baby out and in hours you’d be sunbathing in the garden knitting booties. Lol. Sounds Fab! Lol

Pat Lurcock… My first born, Danny, was born there in 1962. It looks grim on the outside but the nursing staff were lovely and so was the food. Dads were not allowed to stay for the birth in those days.
Julian Heep… i wasn’t born there but i own Fernbank, the house that’s in it’s place. The only surviving bits are some of it’s boundary walls. It still looks a bit grim on the outside but the owner’s lovely, lol.
