The Royal Family. The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.
Claire Lonsdale… I’m not a royalist but I feel quite sad. RIP
Neil Cartwright… Yes, Claire. I think it’s because she was already there before most of us were born – and she has always been there. I’m not a royalist either, but there’s no denying that she has been some kind of a figurehead for the country – a figure of stability.
Claire Lonsdale… Neil, that’s exactly it. She’s been a constant in our lives , always there. She was a year younger than my mum and so it makes me think about my darling mum who I lost many years ago.

Alan Esdaile… So very sad. It feels to me as if I lost one of my own family.
Lyn Humphrey… Very sad. The only British monarch most of us have known. I’m grateful to have had the Queen as a constant in the background of my life, rather than most of the PMs that have come & gone.
Dave Nattress… So sudden. Certainly took the wind out of my sails and the TV coverage I’ve had time to watch and pageantry involved has been interesting. We all knew it would happen one day and not so far off obviously at such an age, and of course the operation was rehearsed and scripted long, long, ago, but the thoroughness of all the formalities put so suddenly in place shows that this country really do the job when minds are focussed!
