The Italian Way… After over 44 years, we are delighted & excited to announce a change of ownership for The Italian Way. We would like to thank all our customers for supporting us throughout this incredible journey. Four generations have grown up with our Pastas and Pizzas and have celebrated some unforgettable events in our family restaurant. More announcements will follow, but we can say that the new chapter will begin on the 19th of September, with a few weeks of closure due to refurbishment. Goodbye Hastings, it has been a pleasure.

Richard J Porter… My Father in Law’s fountain

Kate Rosie… Richard, It’s known as Uncle Johnny’s fountain in my family! Sad to hear. Sending all good wishes.

Kathy Harding… Loved that place, it was across the road from where i worked.

Heather Sidery… Ohhh NOOOO!!

Malcolm McDonald… Memories

Angela Frances Gardner… I remember when it was Iorio’s in the 60s

Jo Turner… That’s sad. Best wishes

Alan Wood… Oh no fell in love with a waitress in there

Mark Randall… Wow!!

Dawn Shorter… End of an era, been there since my youth and had many a great meal!

Stuart Moir… Times change, good luck for the future new owners.

Andy Davies… As a child my father took me there for ice cream floats after work. In those days it was – and excuse me if i get this wrong called ‘ iorio demasco ‘s I hope it remans an Italian restaurant.

Kim Huckridge… What’s going to replace it?

Marcus de Mowbray… Good luck in the future, but we enjoyed our great meals there and are very sad you are going. All the best!

Joan Ann Cooper-fenner… Very sad to see it go

Mick O’Dowd… I worked there in the 60’s in the school holidays when it was Iorio di Mascio’s. Had a video jukebox upstairs.

Alan Esdaile… Remember in the early 70’s, used to hole punch the records and load on the jukebox, when I worked at Stylus.

John Wilde… Thank you for your long service to our great town.

Tracy Birrell… End of an era. What a shame.

Ralph Town… Hope its as good as it has been. Was in there a couple of years ago, on a visit and had a lovely meal in there. Good Luck for the future.

post shared from Sam Calver….

Sam Calver… The secrets out!  Myself, Katie and River are super excited to announce we will be the new owners of the iconic Italian Way in Hastings . We feel very privileged and thankful to be taking over such a pinnacle part of Hastings’ history.

Marcus de Mowbray… Sad that the Italian Way is moving but hope to visit! I will miss Italian Way’s courgette chips!

Colin Winn… Congrats and good luck

Helen Victoria… Brilliant news !! Can’t wait to try

Lloyd Johnson… I remember going upstairs there in the 60s.They were the only place in Hastings that had a video Jukebox with the Liverpool groups on the screen…

Mick O’Dowd… They also had Jack the Ripper by Screaming Lord Sutch on there but this was known only by the staff(myself included). It was deemed too scary to have it on so the staff played it when we were quiet or closed. I still have a Standard 8 sound clip of this record which was probably the same one as on the box.

Dani Turner… Good luck guys. I’ll be sure to visit when I’m next in town.

Liane Carroll… This is incredible news, congratulations! Lots of love and luck with this brilliant venture.

Stuart Moir… That will be a fantastic music venue, Congratulations from “Loose Change” , we hope to be able to play for you and your customers in the near future

Gary Benton… So pleased to see this iconic venue survive for so many years and through such difficult times and now to read that it’s tradition will live on in the hands of new professional owners. I wish you all the very best. I am a group executive chef currently working out of the UK, but my roots are still in Hastings, it’s where I was born, grew up and began my career at the old Hastings College under the guidance of some fantastic chef lecturers. During the late 70s Italian Way was one of my most frequented meeting places. It gave me inspiration to pursue my career.

Edgar Wright… Mario and I were best friends when he started The Italian Way after buying the business from Iorio Di Mascio. I moved to the USA, but would always stop in at the Italian Way when visiting Hastings. Sadly I lost track of Mario after he retired and went back to Italy, but one of my brothers still lives in Hastings, so I will probably have a nostalgic drive-by, even though it has now closed totally. Very sad!

Rark Modrigues… the Edgar Wright? Rereading it, I don’t think so as it stated his mate started it. I think he’s too young.

John Gale… And now it’s empty, indefinitely

Claire Kelly-Triance… oh dear that’s such a prime property .

John Gale… wagama please

Pauline Richards…. John, oh yes. Save me going to Tun Wells !

Andrew Turner… was Rocksalt for a short while then it became Carvers for an even shorter while before closing – and this is what looks like now.

Mace Sinden… Loved this place

Eric Harmer… Another one bites the dust

Merv Kennard… Eric, did you mean another one bites the pasta.

Marcus de Mowbray… Italian Way, then Rock Salt, then Calvers…what next? I hope it gets a new owner soon, and hope they can make it successful.

Stuart Moir… Should never have changed from a pasta house, trying to open another restaurant when this town is over-loaded with them is a planless move
