Leigh Kennedy… Two further views of Wellington Square, this time looking up Castle Hill Road. Judging by the clothing and the cars I’m going to say early 1950s ? In the background of both photos is No14 Castle Hill Road, used for 50 years between 1899 & 1949 as the offices of the Argus Newspaper.
Alan Esdaile… What was the name of the drinking club upstairs, about next to the newsagent sign? My dad used to go in there

Richard J Porter… Supped a few ales and enjoyed a few meals aboard.
Paul Coleman… The Earl of Zetland is no more. The ship had a very chequered history after it was brought into service in 1939, around the start of the 2nd World War, including 2 other names & being used to carry troops & as a ferry. She spent her last days in a marina in North Shields where she continued as a restaurant, bar & at one time a chip shop. She became too expensive to maintain and was recently lifted out of the water by 2 giant cranes & put on the dockside where she was finally cut up for scrap. A sad end for a ship that gave many good memories to many people.
Mick Knight… Fulton Allen born 1904 or 7 or 9 … in Wadesboro North Carolina. He was an eclectic, popular and influential recording artist. Though he made over 120… 78rpm sides he never performed on stage preferring the street and informal gatherings. Come and join us as we recreate some of the sound of the East Coast blues of Blind Boy Fuller…..with Sister Suzie, Piers Clark, Jem Turpin, Nick Smalley and Mick Knight.
