WARREN-DAVIS cuttings WARREN-DAVIS

Played Hastings Pier 10th February 1968 – cuttings supplied by Wendy Wells

Del Paramor… Main photo shows (l. to r.) Keith Burberry, Del Paramor, Pete Mole, Martin Grice in centre: Paul Brett who had left and been replaced by Tony Ollard (guitar) . Front: Paul Petts, Max Spinks (Warren Davis) left next day for months tour of Turin and Munich. We were going to make a Monkees type tv series but that never came to fruition.  We did a lot more demos after “Love is a Hurtin’ Thing”, but none were ever released.  I am still in contact with Martin Grice and Max Spinks (Warren Davis). Lost 2 of band, merged with “Still Life” and broke up around May, 1968. “Still Life” consisted of Jim Toomey (dms), Stuart Cowell (gtr) Tom Tierney or Con Byrne (B.gtr) and a very good organist whose name I forget.  Roger (baritone) and I were sacked in May, 1968 and the band staggered on for a few months more before Warren himself left, i gather.

Nick Warburton… Del Paramor went on to Sonority I believe.

Del Paramor… I’m very sorry to inform you of the very sad news, that our drummer Pete Mole, died a couple of days ago. We and our wives had met up again in Kent in July after a gap of many years.

Alan Esdaile… Very sorry to hear your news Del. Our thoughts are with Pete Moles family and friends at this sad time.

When we did our cycle proficiency test…

post suggested by Andy Ives.

Alan Esdaile… Did mine at Elphinstone School.

Edward Adams… cyclists nowadays should take a test and have a licence

John Gale… It’s about the only certificate I still have 🤣 passed mine at Sandown

Judy Atkinson… John, me too – or it might have been at the High School

John Gale… Judy, I remember most people passed, apart from one kid who flew over the handlebars during the emergency stop

David Wilkinson… John, Showing off, no doubt. I taught Cycling Proficiency when I was a young teacher in Brighton. The first time, a colleague and I voluntarily did the test, and passed. Thereby showing children later that we were “qualified” !!! It was pre-arranged with the Road Safety team, and the press came too. The children were delighted and possibly highly amused !!! I still have my original badge and certificate, and a handlebar badge from East Sussex. One year, sometime between 1974 and 1978, East Sussex Road Safety held a Safe Cycling Competition at Bexhill. My school represented Brighton and Hove. Did anyone enter such competitions ? My school won a trophy, so again I called in the press !!! Having developed a keen interest in road safety, I moved sideways to work with RoSPA who organised Cycling Proficieny working in Traffic Education. Happy Times.

Sheila Maile… Pity they don’t do it now the amount of cyclists causing havoc to car drivers & pedestrians on footpaths. If they use road should be insured

Han Peterson… Sheila, I did mine, 1st year of secondary… Mine was a second-hand Raleigh bike, went everywhere on it, couldn’t imagine doing that these days…

Alan Esdaile… Here’s my certificate from 1964 and you also got a pendant for your bike.

Marilyn Spence… I got mine at Woodlands Secondary Modern School for Girls Went everywhere on my bike mainly 2 paper rounds and school The print on my pendant ran Probably caused when cycling in the rain

Chris Meachen… Always wanted to do that as a kid, & was a keen observer, but couldn’t afford a bike…

Jo Turner… Chris, me too. Took turns to borrow the one other boy’s bike in the lane.

Phil Dance… Chris, I guess I was one of the lucky ones to own a bicycle. Remember taking my cycling proficiency test around the grounds at Elphinstone school in the 60’s. Used to get a triangular yellow flag when you passed, not sure where you were meant to hang it, as no aerials on my bike!

Andy Burkes guitar vocals, Tim White bass vocals, Ernie Blocksage percussion vocals, Ernst Friedle percussion vocals, Frank Jennings keyboards, Kevin White drums, Charlie (Chas) Garrioch sax, John Plummer trumpet and Sue guitar.

Neil Steadman… Can’t still be going Alan??

Alan Esdaile… Someone said previously that Andy Burkes lives in America now Neil , I think Tim White is still making music but don’t know about the others. Remember seeing them at The Crypt and they were great.

Roy Penfold… The White brothers are still very much into making music, I bumped into Kevin about a month ago. Jon Plummer is in Canada.  Wasn’t there a ‘spin off’ jam band involving Paul Gambeau? I remember sitting in on one of their gigs at the Crypt….

Alan Esdaile… Looking at the website, could that have been Sleazy at Midnight, Roy?

Sue Graham… Great to come across the photos of Shy Boy, I’m Sue that played guitar with the band 1983/84. Still in Hastings playing music.

Ernie Blocksage… Hi Ernie here, back from Australia nearly 7yrs now, having spent nearly 20yrs there, still writing, songwriting and playing perc, guitars, and recording. I was wondering whatever happened to Kev White?  Before l left for Oz in 98, l was lead vocals for Deja Blue, and Kev was the drummer.
