Mick Knights….This was the first time I saw Genesis and as I said in my first post with this group, I remember Gabriel standing behind two antenia like spot lights looking menecing. The last time I saw them was the penultimate concert before Gabriel’s departure, at Wembly arena, where they did the Lamb. The last concert I went to this year was Steve Hackett at the Albert Hall, which was two and three quarter hours of pure nostaiga.

Pete Fisher….back in the days when it was cool to sit cross-legged on the floor at concerts…also still have the ticket!

Glenn Piper….I remember this gig (I know, I know, but it’s true, I do) Peter Gabriel wearing his flower costume etc

Tim Bruce….”Wheres my time machine?…”

Barry M Dyke….I was there with my then girlfriend (now my wife of 40 years), Gill. We both agree that Genesis were nowhere near as good as Budgie. Wasn’t Simon Davies, AKA Tony Kane, doing the disco?

Nigel Ford… and according to my diary, HAWKWIND’s support was MOTORHEAD, my first encounter with them and they returned on the 30th July with the “COUNT BISHOPS” as support (Lemmy’s earlier band)…. my question mainly being..” is his microphone stand jammed at full extension”…!? I went on to see them at Brighton “TOP RANK” & T.Wells Assembly Hall soon after.

Silverhill Tavern – St Leonards-on-Sea 1970’s

business card supplied by Barry French

Who used to go to the Silverhill Tavern?

Martin Richter… my dad used to sing and play the trumpet there – my sister and I would be baby-sat in a back room

Leigh Wieland-Boys… Went there a lot in the 70s

Nick Webb… yes ! many a Saturday afternoon after work and the Xmas factories break up

Roy Penfold… An old friend lived next door, so it would have been rude not to!

Judy Atkinson… The light never worked in the ladies and most of the locks were broken on the cubicles

Wendy Weaver… Played pool on there a few times.

Sue James… Used to go there when I was 16

Barry Upton… Loved it

Peter Bridger… Mid 70’s onwards, on the way back from St Matthews youth club, so age 16ish. Still think of certain songs of that era as “Tavern Songs” whenever I hear them!

Samuel Freeman… Went in there mid 70s it was my local only lived across the road

Roger Simmonds… I used to drink in there sometimes, happy days!

Barry French… In the early 1970’s my first band (1st Emotion) played our first pub gigs at the Silverhill Tavern. In order to get the gig we had to take all our gear to the Tavern & do a Saturday morning audition. Well we passed the audition & for a while we played their most weekends. Due to a big rivalry between the Yorkshire Grey Pub (which was in London Road) & the Tavern, part of the deal in securing the gigs was not to play at the Grey while we were gigging at the Tavern. What I remember most was the Tavern was nearly always packed with people. ( Happy Days)

Dave Nattress… We used to go over from Bexhill on Friday and Saturday nights early for “talent-spotting” and then try and meet up with the talent later in one of the clubs!
