Colin… I went to King’s Club a few times in 70s, don’t recall where it was, as parents drove us but had great times. Once stitched up my then girlfriend to be pulled up on stage by Little and Large. Can anyone supply a photo of what it looks like now?
Mark Rymell… It’s The Crumbles shopping center now.

Jim Breeds…..Melody Maker 13th September 1975 and John Martyn is selling his Live In Leeds album from his home in Coburg Place, Hastings. Island records refused to release the LP but allowed John to do so independently and even gave him an Island catalogue number to use. Production difficulties delayed the release and by the time the orders were ready to be fulfilled he was back out on tour and most of the work fell to Beverley. My copy of the LP is number 3261. This advert is from the book that accompanies the box set “John Martyn – The Island Years”.
John Wilde….I worked with Beverly. Packaging and mailing records, visits to the post office 3 times a day. For anyone that is interested I sat in on the Inside Out recordings where I did the album art which was used in the gatefold cover. A real honour and extraordinary pleasure hanging out with such legendary artists.
Jim Breeds…. I read that he was not at all happy with this ad when he saw it, so perhaps he didn’t draft it?
John Wilde…..Yes pretty sure this was not Johns style. I was his roadie for those dates and then went to europe with him. It was an eye opener and great fun. We know what an original John was and to see him recording with Steve Winwood, Chris Wood (Traffic), Bobby Keyes, Remi Kebaka (Traffic) and Danny Thompson was a dream come true to me. I will never forget it.
Tony Davis… We should get the council to put something up on the address perhaps a blue plaque
Jim Breeds… said similar in the J. M. FB group, but the council wouldn’t be able to help, I don’t think. I think it would be down to the likes of us to try to do it.
Andy James Long… Tony, I’ve been in touch with John Bownas with regard to just this. He’s going to look into it and find out how to go about it. If I hear anything back from him about it I’ll let you know, it’s something I’ve thought about for quite some time!
Jim Breeds… It’s come up before, possibly in this group. The Biddy plaque in West Street is a good example of the community getting it done. We could tap into that expertise.
Tony Davis… Failing that I suppose another possibility is John’s favourite watering hole….The Nelson

Terry Pack… Blimey. That’s a blast from the past. I can’t read the date on my phone. Was it 1986? I don’t think I have a copy of this, and I can’t remember the sessions at all. It says it was recorded at Park Gates, which sounds right. I remember all the players and singers, of course, but not many of the songs. I used to enjoy the gigs at The Six Bells. Keith Emerson (RIP) sat in a couple of times and I think he gave Chris a synth.
Alan Esdaile… Yes 1986.
Chris Cozens… Terry, he did. Keith had an endorsement with Korg and gave me a Poly 800 mk2. Loved going to his studio with his GX1 that stopped a tractor once trying to take a short cut! I remember we weren’t allowed to be on the album cover!
Tim Moose Bruce… Chris, One of the times that Keith turned up at the Bells when I met him, he was on crutches. Was that also related to the tractor incident? That was a great night. I remember him playing a brilliant version of Green Onions.
Catherine Ireland… I loved going to the 6 Bells , we went to Kieth Emerson’s house , he was lovely. I really enjoyed putting the cover photo together, I pulled in a lot of favours for that xx
Robert Carey… My favourite band of all time Cathy.-ELP. Would love to have met him.
Alan Esdaile… Here’s the album sleeve which is a bit clearer…
Shaun Pont… Not Just A Record Shop in Eastbourne had a copy in their racks for sges. May still be there.
Pete Prescott… I met Keith Emerson one mad night at his sons 18th birthday party. Very nice funny guy.
Catherine Ireland… I think Keith was on crutches because he broke his foot playing football with his son ? Mind you I might have dreamt that
Tim Moose Bruce… Catherine, The night I met him at the Bells, he was on crutches. Did an amazing version of Green Onions on Chris’s keyboard.
Geoff Peckham… Should have been “Unabridged Telephone Directory”, shouldn’t it? I saw them a couple of times at the Sailing Club; great band. I wasn’t allowed to go to the DLWP Beat Raves as my folks heard that purple hearts were being flogged there. As if!
Jim Breeds… Perhaps they were pre-empting the Red Hot Chili Peppers?
Yvonne Cleland… Wot. In the De La Warr?
Colin Fox… I never saw them, but heard they were very good. I later played in a band with the bass player Roy Sanderson.
Pacman… As mentioned before, it was definitely “Unabridged” telephone Directory. I worked with Roy at Drallims” & they were regularly playing at The Regent Hotel in St Leonards. Great band.

Fred Marsh… Loved Mike my dad took me to see him at the Victoria Palace when I was 11. Richard O’Sullivan brilliant actor, regards to both
Jeff Bolton… Both great entertainers. Both made me laugh when they were on their TV shows in the 1970’s, and very early 1980’s.
Pat Hinder… Well done. You gave us great entertainment x
Wendy Weaver… Richard O’Sullivan was always one of my favourite actors. I have a DVD of Its Great to be Young, he was great and very young in it as it was made in 1956.
Pete Brazier… Two of my favourite celebrities, loved Richard in his Dick Terpin series, and miss Mike’s impressions
Beatrice Newman… Richard O’Sullivan marvelous actor , made comedy look so easy.
Denise Fletcher… Loved Richard in Man about the House!
Alan Morgan… Beatrice, Man about the house was my favourite TV show
Betty Mcnicol… Mike Yarwood just fabulous impressions xx
Lisa Flanagan… Both great entertainers. Still see Richards cheeky smile there.
Maggie Wilkins… They both look as if they’re both up up no good there! Pair of naughty schoolboys in disguise!
Anne Mackie… Watching Man about the House right now. Loved Richard he was very good as Robin. They don’t make shows as good nowadays more is the pity. Take care Richard loved you.
Julie Jackson… Love Richard O’Sullivan – love the character he played in Man about the House – wonderful sense of humour x
Anthony Nicholls… I work with the intellectually handicapped as a caregiver. I wear a saucy knickers and bra apron instead of the regulation one – a là Robin in man about the house. I think of his character every day when I put it on . A lot of people mention Richard’s character when they see my apron – 40 going on 50 odd years later !

Chris Giles… Terrible news another talented musician has passed away
Alan Esdaile… Very sad news. Another Giant Of Rock. R.I.P. Keith Emerson.
Dennis Torrance… R.l.P. Keith yet another sad loss what a year of people we love going one after another.
Chris Giles… I agree it’s quite shocking… I’ve never known a year like it .
Mike Curtis… Oh FFS. Enough’s enough!
Sheila Maile… Sad news
Mike Curtis… According to TMZ, the death of Keith Emerson is being investigated as a suicide.
Law enforcement sources tell the site the EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER keyboardist had a single gunshot wound to the head when his girlfriend found him in their home in Santa Monica, California.
Emerson had reportedly been suffering from a degenerative nerve disease in his right hand that meant he could only play the keyboards with eight fingers. As a result, he was struggling with depression.

Neil Cartwright…. A little Keith Emerson story.
Although I was more into ‘Yes’ during my sixth-form years, Keith Emerson was still a Superhero – so imagine the jaw-drop moment in Aug-Sept 1988 when I got a phone call from him. He was holding his son, Aaron’s 18th birthday party at The Six Bells in Chiddingly, and he wondered how much we’d charge to play – the Jez Gillett Band. Besides anything else, we had a decent PA system and he wondered if it would be all right if his band ‘Trio’ played as well. I asked for £100, which he agreed to. Come the evening, we’re setting up, and Keith comes over to me and says, ‘It looks like our bass player won’t make it – do you think you could stand in?’ Bang. The stuff of dreams coming true – mixed with blind panic. ‘Can you play ‘Fanfare’ and a few others?’ My mind is a blank. He produces some photocopied notes, which on a good day, I’d read – but tonight, they look like Chinese – so Keith writes the letters underneath for me, explains that it goes ‘Dunga Dunga Dunga Dunga’ and I pin it up to the middle beam in the Six Bells. We play – I’ve got photos, which I’ll dig out. There’s one, where Keith is yelling across at me in apparent ecstasy, obviously knocked out by my bass-playing. How easily the eye can be fooled. In reality, he’s yellin ‘EEEEE’ ……… because I’m still Dunga Dunga-ing on ‘C’ !! But what a moment! I’ll let Pete Prescott relate what happened after the gig.

Barry French… Very sad news. I love Neil’s story.
Mick O’Dowd… With all the talent now going upstairs and now with the greatest producer I wonder when we’ll get the album released.
Lucy Pappas… So sad to lose his ability.
Jacqueline Patton… what a great story Neil.
Lesley Brown… Amazing experience! I would have loved to have been there!
Jim Breeds… Terrific story!
Pete Prescott… Remember the jam I had with him after the gig ?
Neil Cartwright… Exactly – that’s what I was referring to …. and the tap-dancing …. wasn’t Keith playing the piano backwards and you were pirouetting? Also, I’ve got a very strong feeling that the drummer was Carl Palmer (when it wasn’t Mick Burt!!). Do you remember? It looks like him on the photo.
Andy Qunta… RIP Keith. Sorry to hear about the passing of Keith Emerson. His brilliant keyboard playing & showmanship were a big influence on me when I started playing keyboards.
Phil Little… Excellent story and memory, Neil.
Pete Prescott… After the gig Keith Emerson was in the back bar at the piano. I sat next to him. We went through Summertime. (I was thinking “oval cricket ground Sep 72.i saw E.L.P along with 60,000 others! “) then he played flight of the bumblebee as I tapped danced. I jumped up and banged my head on a low beam. He thought that was the best part of the night. He stood on the keys of the piano facing out and bent down and played boogie woogie upside down (then fell off !).He played and sang jump you fucker jump. When he played piano I said can you play like Mrs Mills ? He did. Then I said Russ Conway ? He looked and gave the Russ Conway smile and did ! Then I said Oscar Peterson? He stopped and said ah ! But did. He was very funny (and very drunk).a very nice guy. Amazing night. Neil and i went home a very happy pair that night. It’s not often you meet a hero who turns out to be a great guy and have a night like that.I’ll never forget it. P.S. He also did a brilliant Les Dawson !
Chris Sambrook… First heard the Nice on Top Gear. To which later Peel commented on ELP “were a waste of talent and Electricity” Bought the first Nice album with my paper round money. Too young to see the Nice live at the time. Saw ELP on their first British tour, at Brighton Dome 1970 and left speechless. I feel they had lost their way after Brain Salad Surgery. Taking an Orchestra on tour cost them a lot of their money. The other members of ELP said and documented on the DVD Near the Beginning “If it wasn’t for you and that bloody orchestra we would have been millionaires by now” In 1998 Emerson made a live album with Glenn Hughes and Marc Bonilla called the Boys Club Live in California with a cracking version of Tarkus. R.I.P Keith Noel Emerson.
Janine Anne Scott… Fabulous x
Andy Qunta… What a fantastic story, Neil! I love it!
Tony Davis… A very sad event but what a wonderful story and memory Neil and Pete have to share. RIP Keith.
Colin Fox… Keith Emerson as many people may know, lived in the little village of Chiddingly, East Sussex, and often used to play at one of my local pubs. Here he is playing in The Six Bells.

Robert Searle… What a great story, Keith was such a great musician, thank you
Tim Moose Bruce… Loved it the night at the 6 Bells when he did Green Onions with the Johnny Mars band.
Pete Prescott… Tim, I think that’s when Forcefield started. Ray Fenwick got talking to Cozy Powell who was playing in ELP and was with Keith Emerson that night. Then he got the idea to record Smoke On The Water with him.
Kate Rosie… Brilliant! X
Bob Searle… Great story and photos
