Martyn Baker… My parents banned me from going to this one…. but I went anyway, which made it all the more exciting. Maybe they’d heard about Stacia dancing semi-naked onstage?

Phil Gill talking about Ace ‘How Long’….Brilliant single “How Long”, great guitar solo, fab Paul Carrick vocal. A great song is ageless.

Phil Gill… Stacia! I met her once, she was lovely. Every band needs a shaman.

Phil Thornton… did many gigs supporting Hawkwind !! a jolly bunch and no mistake ! – prepare for the sonic attack …..

John Storer…  In 1973, this was a fairly expensive gig to go to … 99p! Remember going to the gig but was only really interested in hearing Silver Machine because I found the rest of their stuff a little … overblown. Would echo Phil Gill’s comments about Paul Carrack … may be no coincidence that he appears (and sings) on my two favourite Squeeze albums … East Side Story (the brilliant “Tempted”) and Some Fantastic Place (the excellent “Loving You Tonight”)

Gary Kinch… I was there but don’t remember much of it…..I have vague hormone driven memories of Stacia though. Ace’s How Long was always a juke box favourite for me. …..and agree I with John, Tempted is very good.

Andrew Freeman… I used to work with a guy who played bass guitar with Hawkwind, but not sure which years as they had many changes over the years.

Pete Fisher… I was there (I think!)…vaguely remember the light show (mostly strobes) and the wall of sound…and Stacia of course…probably another of those gigs where everyone sat cross-legged on the floor, apart from a couple of stand-up dancers up front, who people occasionally threw beer cans etc at!!

Gary Kinch… Following Andrew Freeman ‘s comment I had a google of former members, nearly 40 line up changes including Ginger Baker and Arthur Brown……..well I never knew that. Having said that, I might have known at one stage but since forgotten it. I’ll forget where my arse is one day.

Catherine Ireland… Was Ace The Paul Carrack Ace ?

Chris Giles… Yes I was there ….

Peter Fairless… How long?

Alan Esdaile… That’s an ace comment, Pete.

Ian Quinnell… Great band, but I missed this gig. Working behind the bar at Palace Chambers that night.

Shaun Pont… Hawkwind – not a very happy spaceship at the moment.

Keith Veness… Was there loud night

Sandie Carlyon… Great night.

Peter Thomson… I knew I’d seen Ace down there some time.

Cliff Wootton… I remember that gig

Lucy Pappas… I remember that gig, too!

Yvonne Cleland… Amazing gig

Jo More… I drove a rented van full of friends & relatives (including my husband) from Orpington to Hastings Pier. What a night!! We sat on the floor & waited for the red lights to show on the speakers….then the warrrrmmm sound of them about to start….MAGIC! Stacia came on stage a little later, she was amazing! It was easy to dance then, you just stood up & did your own thing!! We followed Hawkwind to lots of other gigs over the coming years….FAB. I am going with my (now ex) husband on November 4th 2018 to see them at the London Palladium for a much different price than 99p ha ha ha I think we will have a lot of fun xx

Pete Houghton… Yes it was a great night both watching the Hawks and Ace play

Tony Court-holmes… god i remember that night

Beau Dendy… I was there too

JS Bythesea… So was I. Silver Machine was no 2 in the charts, if I remember correctly.

Trevor Jones… I remember hearing them in Cambridge in 1975 I was there for a beer festival .Ginger Baker said “ Not the most subtle band I have played with “ .My hearing returned after a few days .

Sue Strong… So was I, remember the girl and the bubble machine
