Who did you see at Aquarius in 1972?

img273

Martin Richter… never heard of any of `em 🙂

Jim Breeds… Quite a list wan’t it! I mostly saw my friends there, lol. And Steve Maxted. It’s about time he got another mention in this group 🙂

Chris Meachen… Edison Lake & Palmer eh?

Alan Esdaile… I thought that was a bit bizarre Chris. Perhaps they meant Edison Lighthouse instead!

Kevin Burchett… i saw quite a few off them great days and of course steve maxted.

Chris Meachen… Certainly don’t recall ELP ever playing here:- that would’ve been a really big deal…

Alan Pepper… Wow great reminder of a golden age of my youth !
Out of that list I can recall…. Hot chocolate , elgins, bay city rollers (when keep on dancing came out ) Edwin Starr (fantastic ! ) Geno Washington Donny Elbert (singing a little piece of leather another great night !) And Gary sadly !! And 1973 shortly looming ….

Colin Bell… Most of them, compered some, got pissed with Geno Washington, Sally Carr from Middle Of The Road tried to nick my trousers! But best of all i love all the misspelling of the artistes names! The best has to be Edison Lake and Palmer..Wasn’t there for that one but would have loved to hear their medley of Love Grows..where my Tarkus goes..Lol!

Lucy Pappas… I  loved the Aquarius though I never appreciated how big or notorious some of those bands would become in time!

Nigel Ford… BUDGIE on a midweek day (Thurs) I think, I travelled back from my residence at Plumpton Ag College specially with fellow student Pete Kingshott of KINGSHOTT Transport (local). Was definitely over that winter 72/73.

Alan Esdaile… They played on a Wednesday Nigel 14th Feb 1973.

budgie1

supplied by Iain Cobby.

Yvonne Cleland… Would that be the same Factory who just happen to be playing the Carlisle on Oct 16th, per chance?

Tony Davis… Did a short stint as the house DJ here in the seventies and can remember standing at the side of the stage talking to Errol Brown from Hot Chocolate. He was pretty cool! Don’t ever remember Roxy Music being there though.

Peter Thomson… I was still only 15 for most of ’72, which meant I missed almost all of this list, as I would have been stopped on the door. Shame, because it is an astonishing array of talent. I filled out a bit(!) and managed to get in to see Blackfoot Sue. Also remember a sell-out Sweet gig about the same time. Must surely have been in ’73 I recall Kiki Dee and The Marmalade?

Jan Warren… Fusion Orchestra, saw them quite a few times at The Aquarius in the early 70s!!

Mick O’Dowd… Quite a few of these. Donnie Elbert. Ben E King, Elgins, Johnny Johnson, Hot Chocolate, Percy Sledge and i’m sure a few others not mentioned. The coming soon list I think was a bit optomistic. Don’t remember many of those actuaally coming as I would have definately gone to see them.

Leigh Wieland-Boys… I remember seeing The Sweet, Mungo Jerry, Hot Chocolate amongst others…and a stripper (error on my part as didn’t realise it was gentlemen’s night!)

Vivienne Gibbs… My Dad worked as a doorman there for a good few years – he often bought home signed photographs for me – including Kiki Dee. Sadly all lost through various moves.

David Kent… I didn’t know Thomas Edison played with Lake and Palmer. Or that Black Foot and Sue were separate artists.

Sheila Maile… Didn’t get to go there but saw Gary Glitter in the park 1973/4.missed last bus to see the finale. Walked as far as Battle to get home to Netherfield & got picked up by police with my 11yr old brother. But they wouldn’t give us a lift. Went to Saturdays back in 80s.no live bands I don’t think.

Andy Maby… Today Huw… still a nice pub. Good food too and music.

Hole In The Wall pub Hill Street Old Town Hastings.

Ray Barry… Remember it well,a Merrydown cider and bottle Brown Ale 2/10d. Circa 1963/4

Patricia Burgess… Ray, OMG haven’t heard the name Merrydown for at least 45 years loved that cider. Is it still made.

Ray Barry… Patricia, No the brewery closed some few years ago and is now a housing estate in Horam

Tony Court-holmes… Ray, my mum june used to drink that in The Anchor back in the 60s

Paul Reed… Is that street still there today or did it disappear if thats st Clements church in photo.Did I hear that area suffered bomb damage as well.?

Lynda Whatley… yes that is St Clements Church and the area was suffered bomb damage – and the church suffered too . My mother and myself posed for the local artist – when the church window over the alter was commissioned .

Ray Barry… The street is still there but the pub has long gone and is now a house. A pub round the corner called The Swan got bombed during the Second World War.

Graham Mccallion… I remember those days

John Wilde… I lived in Hill street during the late 70s and it was long gone

Eric Harmer… I drunk in there with Tony Davies , he lived in the Croft. They had bar billiards in there

Jacqueline Marsh… I went to school just behind this pub

Monica Bane… My Wedding breakfast there In 1960!

Tony Court-holmes… drank in that pub

Tony Collins… Whether true or not but I did hear that at one side of the top window of the Church is a cannonball fired from an enemy ship and the other one is made or stone to balance it up. If you look carefully one is rusted and the other is grey. Can anyone confirm this?

Roger Simmonds… Tony, Yes there is a cannon ball in the wall!

Roger Simmonds… I also used to drink in there in 1964!

Janet Mournard Russell… Used to go there often.

Mick Barrow… The Kicking Donkey kicked the hole in the wall, i think Ron French was the landlord

Don Cropper… A group of us bikers used to drink there and play snooker and billiards in the middle to late 60’s

Cris Kennard… I had my wedding reception in the Hole in the Wall Sept 1968 when I married my first husband (Roger Barnett who died in 1983) Don do you remember.
