Katie Rogers… Hello all, I just wondered if anyone remembers my dad Dave Nattress? I know he was active in this group at one point. Sadly he passed away last year, apologies to pass this news on to those who didn’t know. I wondered if anyone had any photos or memories they could share? He was in a few bands locally back in the day and continued to support others over the years. Music was a huge part of his life, and something we shared together. Thank you.
Alan Esdaile… Hi Katie, he was a regular contributor to the page and did turn up at a number of SMART meets. A number of people in the group played in bands with him. I’m sure you have seen this photo before of The Prisoners and I’m sure it’s with Dave on lead vocals. I will look to see if I can find anything else and hopefully others can help.
Claire Lonsdale… Hi Katie, I met your dad at the Smart Meetings and he and I were facebook friends, so I was aware of his sad passing. Apart from chatting to him at the get togethers, I don’t have anything to share, except that he was a nice, friendly man. Xx
Leigh Mitchell… I knew Dave back in the early 70s, I worked at the Continental in Bexhill and I saw him performing at a few local pubs. His family home was close to mine in Collington too. He went out with my friend Jane, for years. We became Facebook friends some years ago. I was very sad when he passed away.
Sarah Harvey… Hi Katie, I believe this is your dad. I played alongside him in a band called ‘Samisen’
Mike Waghorne… I remember dave from the early 70’s, we use to use the same pub back then, I had a conversation on messenger only last year about the 70’s & was going to met up for a coffee but never got around to, he told me he was semi retired and living in Little Common. RIP
Paul Durrant… Hello Katie, Sorry to hear about Dave. He sang with our band Damaris for a while but I don’t have any pictures unfortunately. The Dave I remember was always cheerful and never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was a bit of a Rod Stewart look-alike back then as you probably know and as well as music he was very proud of his metallic silver Ford 1600E.
Katie Rogers… Thank you all so so much for your comments, it really means alot. He was always talking about music with me, and mentioned some of you and the bands you’d been in! I’m glad he was able to connect with some of you again.
Jaffa Peckham… Hi Katie. I was sad to read the news of your dad’s passing. I was a good friend of his throughout our school days. A group of us were nicknamed ‘the Goon Squad’ by Mr Ratcliffe, our form teacher at the Down Junior. We stayed in the same class until the 5th form, so a good ten years or more. I’ve great memories of Dave’s great sense of humour and the fun we had. We were fairly good academically but that didn’t stop us fooling around and getting the slipper on a regular basis! We also shared similar tastes in music, both carrying this on after school, although we went our separate ways when we left school. I luckily reconnected with your dad recently and spent a very pleasant day with him reminiscing in Bexhill, then attending a SMART meet in the afternoon. Now I wish we could have spent more days like that together. We were good friends and he was a good bloke. My heartfelt condolences to you and your family, Katie. He’ll be missed by us all. x

Lyn Humphrey… I was shocked and saddened to read that Dave had passed away. We were classmates for virtually every year at Bexhill Downs school. Always got on well with him (it would have been difficult not to, as he always seemed upbeat). Only bumped into him occasionally after we left school, but just before lockdown he popped into Egerton Park to chat with a group of us who regularly play tennis there. I’m glad I knew him. RIP Dave.
Iain Cobby… Hi Katie, So sorry to hear of your dads passing. As Paul has said he was the singer in Damaris along with Paul, Tony Barraclough, Mick Kemp and me. I remember him as a great raconteur who could hold an audience with his wit and persona. We did talk through SMART about meeting up and sharing memories but sadly it never happen. I do have a press cutting and a tape of a gig we did on Hastings Pier, however I have recently moved house and all my old band stuff is in boxes after getting them back from being in storage for a year. I will try to find them and pass them to Alan. Really sad to hear this news, He was a light in the darkness. Rock on!!!
