Dengate Bus Service outside Tesco Hastings

Peter Ellingworth… Dear old Dengates. Taken over by Davies of Rye but they kept the old name livery and logo, as Dengates were held locally in such high regard. Am I right in thinking this photo judging by the reg plate, would be 1967-70 – but before decimal currency in early 1971, as can be seen by the Tesco price lists which are still showing proper money. The Transport Library https://www.thetransportlibrary.co.uk I mentioned about this excellent site in the previous post of buses in Wellington Square @ early 1950s and is very interesting : for local scenes including some quality colour ones just type Hastings in the search box. Visited the East Anglia Transport Museum at Carlton Coville, Lowestoft today (31st Oct), hoping to ride around in our Hastings trolleybus BDY 809 no. 34, but it had to be withdrawn shortly before I arrived due to a defective trolley head on one of the electrical pick up poles- these things happen – so we had London 1201 instead.
An enjoyable day nevertheless.  Incidentally for those interested, the EATM committee have given the go-ahead for adverts to be put on the top panels of Hastings 34, this will really set it off. We have an excellent colour photo of the nearside of this vehicle taken by the late Clarence Carter in 1950 outside the White Rock Baths ( it was featured on this site about a year ago), so that takes care of knowing what advert was on that side, we are now trying to find if possible an offside photo taken in the same period or preferably year, to ascertain what was advertised on the offside to try and keep it as authentic as possible. If anybody has any contemporaneous photos of the offside of 34 we would be most grateful.

Stuart Moir… Wellington Square from many years ago.
