A Christmas treat with Hastings favourites Glenn Veness and Liane Carroll. Glenn’s films will be accompanied by Liane (recently awarded the BASCA gold badge for services to British music). In the second half of the evening Liane will play a set with her trio Roger Carey on bass and Russell Field on drums. Liane describes the evening as ‘a melting pot of vision and sound mixed with a few Christmas baubles!’

John Martyn – ‘Big Muff’ Hastings Beach 1991
With the Hastings Beach Festival approaching this weekend, good time to post this video by Glenn Veness, of the great John Martyn singing ‘Big Muff’
I have fond memories of John when I worked in Stylus Record Shop. He used to pop and chat about music and records. One day we had a surprise visitor in the shop ‘Art Garfunkel’ . He was in town to record with John. Also remember a great gig by John at The Carlisle. I think Alan Jensen from the Disc Jockey promoted it and was a warm up to his tour. Brilliant night. Martyn Baker comments…. The film also features cameos from Minn, Liam Genockey and Roger Hubbard.
Joe Knight comments…. spotted PAT THE HAT!!!! lol

Hastings Old Town Week – Early 90’s by Glenn Veness
Any idea what year?
Matt Thomas…..Recognise any of the bands playing? Early 90’s i think
Jim Breeds…..We’ve decided it is multiple years now. 91 and 93 and poss others. Over on HAPP, Sue Read spotted 1993 on the front of a train carnival float at 13:41 but think multiple years because Rod Smith said that John Martyn clips are from ’91?
Alan Esdaile…..some good shots of John Martyn, Min and the Expedient Band and notice a split second of Eric Harmer! Excellent video by Glenn Veness who goes that extra mile to line up various pieces of music ‘Teach The Children’ CSNY and Paul Weller to work with the images on the scene. Must have taken him ages but much appreciated.
Jim Breeds……And yes, I loved the matching u of music. That included J.M. saxophonist being shown during sax breaks on whatever song was used for the soundtrack at that point
