supplied by Karen Sweatman Was Blackman

Karen Sweatman Was Blackman… Rhythm guitarist was Mark Johnson, lead guitarist and vocalist was Kingsley something …. don’t know others

Philip Meston… That would be the late Kingsley Trowell

Redstar Richter… great wallpaper – chicken tikka masala for me please 🙂

Mick O’Dowd… Not a bad band but they changed their female vocalist quite often or did they have a shift rota?

Eric Cawthraw… Looking Back – yep, definitely recognize Mark Johnson. The last time I bumped in to him, he’d been doing some gigs in London…this worked with Tim of the Weeping Crocodiles….. Hastings calling Mark, Hastings calling Mark, over.

Karen Sweatman Was Blackman…. Hello Eric. Hope you are still enjoying retirement!

Eric Cawthraw… Yes Karen, enjoying the retirement. As I said to Alan, the days just fly by, which is a bit or a worry as we only get an allotment of so many! I’m not missing work, you could only get me to go back if you were threatening my privates with a meat-cleaver. [Hmmm – that’s a chopper over the chopper]. Love to you and the hubby. xx  The big co-incidence is that I’ve worked with Tim Noakes, Karen S and Mark Johnson. There seems to be a lot of musicians in banking or the Civil Service!

Wendy Weaver… The singer is Rebecca Harrison.

Robert Searle… Great photos.

Peter Gladwish… This very early line-up consists of the late Kingsley Trowell (lead guitar), Becky Harrison (vocals), Eric Burgess (bass guitar), Barry Jenkins (drums), Mark Johnson (rhythm guitar). In the second photo, you can also see the back of Dave Turnbull sitting on the left, ‘twiddling’ with the knobs on the P.A., with little useful effect! ‘Looking Back’ was formed in the mid-nineties by Eric Burgess and Barry Jenkins. With many changes of personnel over many years, the band continued until Christmas Eve 2012, becoming one of our top local bands. I’m surprised so few local people know about them. Too late now! Attached is a bit of publicity, showing the final line-up.

supplied by Peter Gladwish.

Peter Gladwish taken at Tunbridge Wells Constitutional Club in 2009.

Robert Searle… Pete, what has become of Jane and Tim, i know Phil plays in various groups and Rod is in Loose Change.

Peter Gladwish… Hi Bob. Jane has been ‘doing’ a bit occasionally (singing that is) with ‘The Exiles’ folk/rock band but not really her ‘scene’ (her words). Tim has done a couple of pub gigs with some local muso’s from Hastings/Fairlight area but it came to nothing and again, he’s not keen! I may be starting a small musical ‘project’ with Tim and our old lead guitarist, Mike, in the very near future, strictly for our own amusement. No gigs planned.

Colin Fox…The only fights I saw at The Yelton while playing, were between girls. Odd that.

Josie Lawson…(Top photos). Definitely remember them. I remember the girl singing but not sure if Rev was playing with them as I used to go not only with my mag in mind but to meet my brother.

Lucy Guest… Wow! A blast from the past finding this forum. I used to sing with the line up of King, Pete, Rev and Tim before I moved to the southwest. I’ve got some old photos around somewhere, I’ll dig them out to add here.

Eric Burgess… (top photos) Lead guitar Kingsley Trowell. Bass guitar, me Eric Burgess.Drums Barry Jenkins. Singer Becky ?(can’t remember surname). When Mark left was replaced by a great local musician Rev Stockdale

The Silhouettes – 1963

supplied by Pete Millington

Pete Millington… Another picture came out of the archives which I just had to colour – The Silhouettes in 1963, I think. L-R Robin Peglar, Mary McCarthy, Kirk Ronchetti, Kingsley Trowell RIP, and Rodney Trowell, I saw this line-up in the Old Town Market Hall – well ahead of their time and most groups in Hastings.

Down By The Jetty (Mk1 version) around 1995

Supplied by Paul Huggett

Kingsley Trowell, Paul Huggett and Barry Jenkins

Paul Huggett… Found this one with King Trowell and our drummer Barry as Down By The Jetty (Mk 1 version). I used the name again a few years on as a full on blues / R&B band with Mark Wright and Tony Hughes, and on occasion Pete Webber on sax.

Lynn Graham… Hi Barry, long time no see.
