Paul Dove….Great times, it amazes me were these photos keep coming from,next question did that record ever survive,! look at Alan doing the 1000yd stare !!,,, It always made me laugh seeing the veins in Jon Mac,s neck sticking out when we done house of the rising sun, classic.

Jon McCallion....Good times. I still have a copy of Fooling around, will play it to you one day.

Paul Dove….Hi Jon that would be great,although cant remember how it went. ! i keep meaning to come along to one of alans meetings, but i will.Yes good times.

Alan Esdaile…We only planned to record the one song and then had just enough time for an unplanned ‘B’ side which had to be an original. Nothing arranged, so the band came up with an instrumental called ‘Freak Out’.

Paul Dove…Alan you are doing wonders for my memory , yes i remember doing the b side ,We got to do a big meet up with factory, Steve k , I know we lost Stevie D .But would be great to see all the guys from that magical 60s 70s era,!!!  what was i looking at ,, think alan had dropped a 1 00 note , was good fun recording Fooling Around, same studio as the Who recorded , hope to see Jon,  Alan & maybe Paul Wiseman at Beatles Day tomorrow.

Alan Esdaile… We all look tired and fed up Paul. Hanging around for ages for the studio guy to turn up.

Pete Fisher… seem to have missed something here…what did you play Alan?

Alan Esdaile… played the fool Pete! I was manager of the band or should I say humper of the gear, arranged the recording session and gigs and got paid lots of money. Well maybe not the last bit!

Muller & The Town Council possibly? supplied by Jon McCallion. Anyone help on this one? Its definately Brian(Bear) glasses, Steve Kinch and Jon McCallion but not sure about the two guys in the middle.

Steve Kinch….”Just seen this on the SMART page – One of the earliest shots of me (2nd from left) playing guitar on stage, aged 14 or 15. You could probably count the number of gigs under my belt on the fingers of one hand . Pic courtesy of my old friend John McCallion, seen singing far right.”

Phil Gill….Three guys in the middle – I spot a bass player between Steve Kinch and the bloke with the white shirt and beard.

Steve Kinch….Well spotted Phil – looks like a Burns Nu-sonic bass – in which case, it’s probably Iain Cobby. The drummer’s left handed, so pretty certainly Steve D. No idea who the two chaps in the middle are.

Paul Dove… yes steve Ian replaced me when i formed 3 on ice with nigel dance & jed,,!!Dont know who the other two were !!

Pete Fisher….Iain Cobby  was in Black Ash, with me and Bernie Jeffery… 1970…my first band!

Tony Court-holmes….i was there

Chris Baker….The chubby chap is Pete (Bill) Willshire not sure of the others. Bill used to deliberately mispronounce his words a lot. Elvis Presley became Alfie Prescott, Dave Dee & Co became Dave Dee, Dozy, Sleazy, Dirty Bitch etc. Great fun to watch the audience doing double-takes.

Alan Esdaile…..Thinking back to some of the early local groups I saw, the most popular covers they played were ‘Hush’, ‘Knock On Wood’ and ‘Ride Your Pony’. Anyone remember any others?

Jon McCallion… Paul, 3 on ice was before Muller, you left to form Candy Stripe with Jed and Nigel Dance. Ian Cobby is in this photo behind the guy with open shirt and Steve D is definitely playing .

Iain Cobby… well spotted young Mr Gill & young Mr Kinch, ’twas me and the Burns.

Sparrow Baker… Very not the Town Council although Bear was in it. Iain Cobby was blond wasn’t he ?

Jon McCallion…Haven’t seen this in a while, great times. Yes definitely Iain Coby Steve D & Steve Kinch remember it so well at the Executive Club Wellington Square Hastings

Steve Kinch….Wow! Thanks for posting this Alan, it’s a reminder of a time that I have very little memory of. Are you sure that this wasn’t the final days of Muller (I never liked that name) with Iain replacing Paul Dove on bass – I don’t recall ever being in Effigy. I think I was possibly still at school at this time, certainly hadn’t started to shave… unlike Steve D who was shaving at 6 months

Jon McCallion….Steve I have a few more pics like this. This was early Effigy I think, and like you i didn’t like the name Muller.

Yvonne Cleland….Can’t have been pleasant to think of your audiences as being Mullered.

Chris Baker….Blimey!  The “manager” bloke on the left was Harry Williams!  Brian (Bear) Williams’ Dad who used to manage The Town Council back in the day.  I never knew he went on to do anything else.  I do recall playing briefly with Steve D and Jon M for a few sessions.  Ian Cobby was a nice bloke too.  🙂

Mark Edir…..I worked the door a few times for student party’s at the executive around the 70’s

Sarah Harvey…..Harry Williams eventually ended up helping out at The Ore Zodiac Community Association, who managed Ore Centre and The Zodiac Centre at the time. Between him and me we arranged a number of fund-raiser discos and gigs, which culminated in the Ore Group Festival in the mid-1970s. Ore Centre was ok for gigs, but the Zodiac Centre in Priory Road (now knocked down and replaced by The Bridge Centre was just like the YMCA for acoustics….the sound bounced around the place like a pinball machine and was just a complete racket at times. Harry helped manage the Zodiac Centre since he lived just along the road in Priory Road itself.

Alan Esdaile… Happy days of…..Hair! Business card must have been when Harry was manager.

Jan Warren.. Oh yes, my hubby (ex) Pete Watson was the regular Saturday night DJ at The Regent ……. must have been around about 1972 to 74?! – there were lots of bands, I remember “Rubber Band” (Bowie-type lead singer called Dave, haha) they released a single called “Moon Walker”!! and many other local bands played there, many of which have often been mentioned here in SMART group!! – good times!!

Paul Dove… Well done Alan good memories,, here we are 50 years on and still living the dream,, just wish a few of our old friends could see them but I expect they are still living that dream were ever they are, we are carrying on that dream, love music love life ,love SMART,xx

MULLER and OLD SILVER. Executive Hotel 21st January 1971. Muller line up was probably Iain Cobby, Steve Demetri, Jon McCallion and Steve Kinch. Anyone remember who Old Silver were?

Jon McCallion… Long time ago. Old Silver I can’t for the life of me remember who they are.

Andy Qunta… “Old Silver” sounds familiar! I definitely saw Muller – maybe I was at this gig!

Len Smith… believe Muller line-up about 70/71 was Paul Dove, Steve Demetri, Jon McCallion and Paul Wiseman who was succeeded by Steve Kinch

Andy Qunta….Factory did some gigs with Muller! They were good! I think it was them who did a great version of Deep Purple’s Flight of the Rat. Steve D. especially outstanding on that! We did do a gig or 2 with Muller, or maybe I just saw them play. Wasn’t Steve Kinch with Muller at some point btw?

Steve Kinch….I’m in Oslo, it’s 3:30 am, I’m a bit the worse for alcohol, and I probably should not be on FB right now… but, that WAS Muller, and (I think) I replaced Paul Wiseman on guitar… and Phil’s right – I had a sunburst ‘crapocastor’ and we probably played Summertime Blues.

Paul Dove….Yes that was Muller,were did this photo come from,!! early Muller yes Steve you did replace paul wiseman and yes we played a couple of times with Factory , I remember going up to London to record our one & only record i think it was called fooling around, long time ago but didn’t we have fun, great memories

Harry Randall… Great to see this as I lost track of Hastings bands during my time in Army 68-77 I played with Paul Wiseman and Stevie D during my school days and a guy called Moose on bass!

Geoff Peckham… Around ’68 when I was 15 or so, I auditioned for rhythm guitarist (I was a bass player) with Town Council. It was at someone’s house in Hastings and Steve D and a bass player with glasses were there. The latter had a ‘classic’ bass and wouldn’t let me try it. They tested my diminished chords with Fire Brigade and Got to Get You into My Life. I thought I did well but I didn’t pass. It’s funny what you remember isn’t it.

Jac... Paul Wiseman is amazing!

Bertie Wiseman… My dad Paul Wiseman awesome find.

Steve Kinch… Always thought Paul Wiseman had a Long John Baldry look about him.

Andy Qunta… I agree, & a bit of Paul Jones in there too!

Andy Knight… Geoff, I suspect the Bass player was Bob Shipway and the bass was a Burns Bison?

Geoff Peckham… You’re probably right, Andy, but don’t recall. Thought I did well remembering what I did! Except that it was probably augmented and not dim. chords.

Terry Corder… It was Bob Shipway and he did have a Burns Bison, black If I remember correctly. He also used a burns amp. They used to play at the Round Table.

Phil Gill….Executive Hotel I’m sure I was there – would have been about 14 or 15. I was well impressed.

Steve Kinch….That would make me 15 or16 then! We probably sounded awful… but, you know what?.. I t didn’t matter – we were young, doing our best, and we were having fun! Good times

Jon McCallion….Good times with the Steves and Ian. So good .

Pete Fisher….Iain was on bass in my first real band, Black Ash (whose name lots of people made fun of!), with Bernard Jeffery on drums, in 1970….I rigged up my parents radiogram as an amp, and blew the speaker…

Paul Dove….REMEMBER IT ,, great days.
