Karen Sweatman….This is The Suspects, who were a local band during the sixties and think the seventies. My Dad, Peter Blackman is the one second in from the right. Does anybody remember them? Would love to hear memories.

Stuart Tanner….This is uncanny Peter Shaw, you have not changed at all !!!

Stuart Moir… OMG Beano Easton no less, didn’t you lot look smart he he … The Original Suspects who I joined when Pete’ decided to have a break.

Peter Shaw… John Unwin people, not Rod Sargent !!

originally thought it was Rod Sargent but have updated thanks to Pete Shaw.

Colin Fox… Wasn’t Graham Putland playing with the Suspects at some point?

Peter Shaw… Graham was in “The Lurking Gromwells” but yes Colin, Graham rolled his Ford Thames van (with us in it!) whilst in the Suspects taking out a farmers new fence! Doh!

Andre Martin… Thanks for that info Pete, somebody asked me about the Lurking Gromwells a few weeks back in conjunction I think with the Pier – now you have provided the answer.

Jane Hartley… Suspects van parked down the bottom of my road yesterday!

Robert Searle… Was Suspects when I was a member

Chris Baker… I remember Graham letting me try his Gibson Les Paul at the Round Table. Felt like it hardly had frets at all!

Mick O’Dowd… Deep Purple (Hastings) played with The Suspects and Prohibition at the Polegrove Bexhill for an event called “Rodeo 67” think it might have been 1967.

17th December 1965

Chris Baker… Suspect we’re always having an S added, (or was it taken away?). Confused myself now!

Pete Shaw… Ok, that’s me in the centre top shot, Vic Usher on the right with Colin Masters on the left….Jan was the singer…what was her second name? My first live band! We gigged up to three times per week! I earnt enough to buy a Vespa Scooter much later….RDY 630…what larks!! The photo….Another shot of Jan with her Chaperones…prior to me getting the gig! The guitarist on the right was moved on at the same time…Jan was a hairdresser at the time…any names?

Peter Gladwish… What year was this, Pete?

Andre Martin… Names from the past for sure – excellent.

Robert Searle…  Love seeing these old photos

Will Cornell…Many a parent of hot teenage girls must’ve sent them out to see this band…with a name like that, it’s almost as good as a bar band called “Free Beer”.

Pete Shaw… I  think about 1963 into 1964…I came to Hastings in 1961…I was 12 then and joined Hastings Grammar School…we lived in St George’s Road (mum had a shop and off licence…)!! At school I was in a class with Stuart Tanner, Anthony Nice, Colin Sturdey etc. and played with The Suspects at a Grammar school dance in 1964-5 supported by local lads in Unit 4 (Cliff Brooker, the late Tony Hughes, Mervyn Ashdown

Andy Knight… Brilliant

John Cheves… That’s a great poster.

Colin Fox… I did the same Pete, but I got a Lambretta

Pete Shaw… Gigging was like a town spun University education…I sat behind Jan and wondered why the guys kept smiling at her…then I realised…I wondered why guys were drinking in the bar…I was given a light and bitter…then I realised…I wondered what £11 per week was really worth in 1963…until I paid cash for my Vespa! Then I realised….! Been like that ever since! Hey, still got your acoustic fender?

Peter Millington… Whatever happened to Jan Vic and Colin?

Colin Fox… Yes Pete, it’s the only piece of equipment I have left.

Pete Shaw… I  posted this poster for that reason Pete, as the only one I have up to date knowledge of is Vic Usher (of Stace& Co.!!)

Janine Anne Hemsley… Fabulous

Peter Shaw…..Hey guys, that’s the indomitable Stevie Zee with me behind my ’68 Ludwig…bass was I think occupied by Sir Colin Gibson…but it could’ve been Meister Terry Pack! Stevie, Colin and I performed at an internet televised gig from a London club after Colin and I took part in a rather delicious up market meal!  Great energy from The Zee!!

Phil Gill….Stevie Zee with Peter James Shaw on drums and me on bass.I remember Sambalanco had consumed all the hospitality beer by the time we got off stage

Ralph Town…..Stevie zee…really great guitarist. He used to have a second hand music store in Claremont, just down from the keyboards place

Pete Shaw….Aha, sorry Phil Gill, elements of my memory fail me! But, I do remember that Stevie Zee often used a face, so well known to us, of Bruce Forsythe in pain whilst cracking out searing guitar solos in one of those chords and keys that he knew…!! But, again, I did enjoy the gigs!!

Terry Pack….I played with Stevie for most of 1999. We did a lot of gigs up north with Chris Sharley on drums, including Burnley Blues Festival. My last gig was The Black Horse Festival that year. I think he went back to Spain…

Pete Shaw… There I am…dark glasses on sit tin’ behind my ole Ludwig at The Beach concert!
