Andy Qunta… Wow! Those were the days! I remember Freeway & Sam Tripp! Great stuff!

Simon Walsh… And Factory too!..Great band.

Andy Qunta… Freeway were great! Sam Tripp too!

Bob Shipway… What a Summer Rave line-up!

Ross Holter… Freeway great band and then Shaft

Bob Shipway… Indeed! I was playing in Sam Tripp with Al Turner (vocals), Jeff Hobson (guitar) and Ollie (drums) that night. I can’t remember if this was before Shaft with Dave Shaw, Colin Pearce, Andy Knight and Jim Beadle or afterwards. Either way it was a super night.

Mick Knights….This was the first time I saw Genesis and as I said in my first post with this group, I remember Gabriel standing behind two antenia like spot lights looking menecing. The last time I saw them was the penultimate concert before Gabriel’s departure, at Wembly arena, where they did the Lamb. The last concert I went to this year was Steve Hackett at the Albert Hall, which was two and three quarter hours of pure nostaiga.

Pete Fisher….back in the days when it was cool to sit cross-legged on the floor at concerts…also still have the ticket!

Glenn Piper….I remember this gig (I know, I know, but it’s true, I do) Peter Gabriel wearing his flower costume etc

Tim Bruce….”Wheres my time machine?…”

Barry M Dyke….I was there with my then girlfriend (now my wife of 40 years), Gill. We both agree that Genesis were nowhere near as good as Budgie. Wasn’t Simon Davies, AKA Tony Kane, doing the disco?

Sam Tripp with Allan Turner on vocals & Ollie on drums – 1970’s

supplied by Hastings Groups from 1958 to the present

Allan Turner, Jeff Hobson, Ollie, Bob Shipway.

Chris Sambrook….The same Allan Turner from Rediffusion from 1970/1971. Had a band called Artus in 1971. On bass John Davies and on keyboards Nigel Banks. Would be nice to see him again

Mick Mepham… You there, Turner, man up and be more forceful this instant!! Don’t you just love write-ups? At least it was positive …

Chris Baker… Didn’t know Bob Shipway was with them. Lost touch when he moved to Bexhill. Love to know where he is now.

Allan Osbourne… Can anyone help with any information regarding the members of Sam Tripp and where they might be now. I was the front man for the band back in the early seventies. Bob Shipway bass, Ollie drums, Jeff on telecaster and myself , then Allan Turner as lead singer. I would be gratefull for any info as to present whereabouts of the others . My E mail address is Bacarooda@hotmail.com  Thank you.

Allan Osbourne.. Thanks to people who were kind enough to respond concerning Sam Tripp and Arktuss. Bob Shipway is living in Scotland and married and Nigel Banks is living in New Zealand. If anyone knows the whereabouts of John Davis or Jeff Hobson , please contact me on Email Bacarooda@hotmail.com any information would be greatly appreciated. Allan Osborne of both Sam Tripp and Arktuss. Thanks!

some great pictures of Freeway. Taken around 1970 on Hastings Pier.

Yvonne Cleland…..Bonitas! That was the name I forgot.

Philip Meston….. I remember Bonita’s, but not the Freeway Show Band

Andy Qunta….Great band! Freeway were great, and very ambitious with the brass section!

Ralph Towns… I remember the zoo that was in there .I think a copy of the Bayeux tapestry was in there for a while and I remember seeing a Dalek in there but what the hell that was doing there,I don,t know.

Len Smith… Freeway with Dave Shaw singing. Bonitas gig was 1971.

Ian Plater… Is that the same john kingdom, that had J K’s burger world in Eastbourne.

Tony May… Aside from the musical history side of things this picture is a rare shot of the old Hastings Pier and an attraction I was too small at the time to remember? If anyone knows more about it I would be interested to hear more. Any chance the photo owner would allow me to use it for an article in ‘Hastings Town’ perhaps?

Mick O’Dowd… This was the old Triodome that graced the Pier for a while. It was used for various events including the Zooquarium and a skating rink (can’t recall if it was ice or roller). I believe it was moved to Warrior Square Gardens after The Pier.

Jim Breeds… The Triodome was originally built to house the Hastings Tapestry to celebrate the 900th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings in 1966. It features on several postcards that I have too.

Natasha Kaschevsky… Later used for Amusements around ’76 – ’78, I used to work in there in the summer holidays

Alan Esdaile… I’m sure at one stage it was suggested that The Triodome be rehoused on the Ladies Parlour West Hill with The Tapestry.

Andy Knight… Tony, you are welcome to use it.

Tony May… Thanks for the info Jim and for the use of the photo Andy. If any of the band have any memories of playing the Pier or can give me more info please e mail it to unseated.tony@gmail.com. Thanks!
