Barry White in concert tour programme 1977

supplied by Lin Russell

Linda Russell… Lynda Johnson, do you remember we went to this in Eastbourne 1978 ! (corrected below to 1977)

Lynda Johnson… yes I do

David Wilkinson… Linda, What month would that have been ? I have a memory of having seen Barry White in Eastbourne, but I’m wondering if it’s a false memory.

Linda Russell… just looked on the programme and it says March/April 1977 so I was wrong thinking it was 1978. I seem to remember the support group was Tavares.

David Wilkinson… I could well have a real memory then. I was living in Brighton and we would go to The Congress often, because at that time Brighton was hopeless for live music acts.

Mick O’Dowd… Linda, I was there as well. He shook my hand when he came out into the audience! WOW!

AC/DC Highway to Hell 1979 and Van Halen In Concert 1980 tour programmes

supplied by Nigel Ford

Nigel Ford… AC/DC supported by Def Leppard at Hammersmith Odeon Saturday Nov 3rd. We were delighted to find the 15 – 17 year olds supporting as we’d heard them a few months earlier on the Andy Peebles Radio 1 weekday evening shows as a featured band while doing up our bungalow just before getting wed in July. The programme has pics & feature on the Lepps too and I also have concert review cuttings from Melody Maker the following week . First time we’d seen radio controlled (lead-less) guitar with this huge, brick-like box literally gaffer-taped around Angus’ waist. His roadie carried him on his shoulders out into the foyer and up & down to the front of the balcony during “Rocker” as he solo’d throughout the journey & back.We were 5 rows from the front and got spray from Angus’ sweaty mop ( no safety barriers then preventiong people getting too close) and ears still ringing the following Tuesday… not seen AC/DC since… Bon ruled!

Van Halen at the RAINBOW theatre North London in July, unfortunately Roth was a bit intoxicated but the rest of the band spot on…. 4 years before “JUMP”. I was into them from ’78 when I saw their eponomous album in a music shop in Ipswich while waiting for some plough legs to be straightened up the road at Ransomes factory and was blown away when asked to listen to it.
I took there 2nd album to our wedding reception the previous year for the dejay to play “Dance the night away” from it. Again press reports from their performance in the somewhat crumpled programm – SO Big to look after during the show!

Eric Cawthraw… it was a tour to promote their Spectres album. The gig I went to was at the Hammersmith Odeon – as it then was. The support was Japan when they were still heavy long-hairs, so before they changed their image and musical direction. I think it cost BOC £250K to put this on – serious money in those days – and the laser show was amazing for its time.
Some things never change – we went by train and trying to get back to Hastings was diabolical. We ended up catching the mail train to Brighton at 3.00 am, then came along the coast. The coach we travelled in was one of those old ones where the walkway ran down the side and the separated compartments had those overhead nets for you luggage. 2 of us slept in them with 2 more stretched out on the seats underneath. I think Kev Potter and John Storer were in the baggage rack! The jouney was as memorable as the gig!, These are just a few of the pages.

Carol Bolton… Mick met them whilst he was touring with Mott in the 70s. He said he was surprised to meet musicians even smaller than he was. 😉

Leigh Wieland-Boys… I  went to that BOC gig too, was absolutely brilliant! Loved Japan! We parked in the British Oxygen Company (BOC) opposite – very appropriate!

Nigel Ford… Bernie Martin of ” Warehouse Light & Sound ” worked with them for some time, I think he said he was their roadie. We stumbled across them by accident in “Downtown” Las Vegas several years ago playing free at the Harley Davidson centenary celebrations there and Steppenwolf the following evening!

Graham Belchamber… Sounds like the train journeys I endured after Rush at Hammy Odeon in 1979 and Rainbow at Wembley in.1980, where a mini riot took.place as Blackmore refused to do an encore as the crowed were too quiet. Chairs lobbed at stage, fire extinguishers set off…,
