Ian Mantel… The Millers Arms ‘Old Folks’ outing. From numbers on bus stop probably 1968/9. It seems they were going to Wannock Gardens. The lady in front row with black hat and black coat is Elizabeth Merricks, her husband, Jack is in the back row, second from right with flat cap. Lived in Percy Road all their lives.
Paul Marshall… I used to help bottle up there sometimes and still vividly remember the sweet smell of hops & beer in the cellar. And the Off licence side entrance I used to go to to for crisps and pop.
Tony Court-holmes… there is only the Old King John left in Ore now
Iain Cobby… Well, this was my grandfathers watering hole; my grandparents lived across the road at No.59 all their lives until my grandfather passed away after the second world war. My wife then Lesley and I , took over the ownership of 59 in ’76 when my gran, Mabel , went to live with my parents in St Leonards. She gave piano lessons to local children , including me! but she wouldn’t let me play “let’s twist again” and bass guitar was calling , and still is… Legend has it that my grandfather was a regular at the Millers and went by the name of “niffy nuts with the cast iron guts!” due to his Sunday lunchtime stagger a few yards back from there to the family home!
Ray Barry… My Nan, Laura Watson, lived over the road at no.75 , I lived up the road at no. 68. My Dad was a Sunday lunchtime regular in the Millers, I thought it was still going as a pub. I remember the kids outings.
