Darren Jeetun… Not with an Austin Maestro in the picture. It has to be at least 1982 onwards
Wildstylefree StyleRadio… I remember this part of the station. was still up in 1989 late 2000s
Steve Hamilton… Late 90’s surely? With the yellow Connex signs?
Darren Jeetsun… Steve, definitely at least post 96
Kelly Watson… Where my grandad was a guard
Matt Henshaw… Late 90’s that white car is a Vauxhall Vectra that came out around then..
Steve Moore… The white and red Vectra B’s in the background put this picture 1995 onwards.
Tony Edwards… I think it was taken yesterday
Ian McClavin… Tony, (Wishful thinking!!) Do you remember the fancy murals on the walls inside? I wonder what happened to them?
Robert Mitchell… It’s Got The Yellow Connex Signage. Why Was It Replaced . Numerous Other Southern Railway Stations Of This Style In Good State Of Repair ?
Graham Preston… Far better looking than what’s there now.
Jennifer Oxbury… It’s got the signage after British rail was privatised and sold off and the phone boxes are the 80/90s ones the glass metal ones
Bradley Taplin… Connex sign means it’s 1995 or after
Christopher Watson… Station could have been kept modernised etc
David Fellows… The great Connex operator!
Daniel Elliott… Middle cars are a late 90s Ford fiesta and 2000s Ford escort
A Bodiam Stationmaster… There was a lovely mosaic around the roof of the entrance hall showing, I think, a Bulleid Pacific and a 6 Pan/PUL electric unit. What was done to all that was almost criminal, just to let it rot. There was an echo in that hall that gave the station an atmosphere, and the gents was a monument to convenience engineering.
Liam Leffe Armstrong… A Bodiam Stationmaster I remember at the time when they demolished the station, I was surprised they were allowed to do it. I’m not sure if the bricks were saved either because I remember seeing them all just knocked into a pile of rubble. I should have taken photos at the time. But I was a kid on my way to school
A Bodiam Stationmaster… Liam, f the rest of the building couldn’t be saved, I do wonder it the mosaic could have been moved elsewhere, but I think a lot of the individual pieces had fallen off and were lost by then. Such a shame.
Ben Ja Min… Nissan blue bird on the end. Thats defo in the 90s
Janet Gardiner… Weird the things you remenber. Born in Hastings in 1940 down the left side of this building one of those houses had an apple tree near the back fence and we used to go “scrumping” their apples.
Liam Leffe Armstrong… As other people have stated the white Vectra was a new model around 1995 / 1996 so if it was a taxi at the time, and the Vectra was less than 3 years old, then this pic would have been taken between 1995 – 1999 which is how I see it because without that Vectra there, I would have guessed early 90s
Bruce Lawrence… When they took the sign down above the large window, the original green glass illuminated British Railways lettering was still there, I asked the jcb demolition operator if they could be saved. No, its all coming down in an hour was his reply.
Mike Trigg… Bruce, Managed to get the Gentleman and Ladies room glass signs out before it came down – they had been covered for years
