What’s your favourite song/theme from a film

Solider Blue Buffy St Marie , Theme from Shaft Issac Hayes or Bett Midler The Rose.

Leigh Wieland Boys……One of my favourites too – Good taste! A bit ‘girly’ I know, but probably my all time favourite is Wind Beneath My Wings from Beaches. That’ll Be the Day, Stardust, Saturday Night Fever & Grease all 1970s iconic films with great soundtracks

Pete Fairless.…Theme from a summer place – Percy Faith & People Are Strange Echo & The Bunnymen from Lost Boys.

Matt Thomas…..The Percy Faith one above reminds me of sunday mornings and my parents cooking a roast

Andre Martin….Excellent choices from that special era – keep them coming !!

Gary Kinch……’m a bit of a sucker for musicals, the first film I went to on my own was Oliver, loved it. I have watched most of the Fred and Ginger films and this is a cracker IMO. Probably a bit sugary for some but it has some personal memories for me. Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers You Can’t Take That Away.  My first thought was anything from Quadrophenia but perhaps that doesn’t qualify because it was a film about the songs rather a song about a film. I didn’t think much of the film either, fantastic tracks though. My second thought was Blade Runner, the Vangelis soundtrack fits the film beautifully. I wouldn’t sit down and listen to the music on it’s own though, it might seem a bit boring.Third thought would be anything from Pulp Fiction. (not 1970’s though) It was a fairly eclectic mix of tracks, some of them not my cup of tea at all. The Film however gave every track an element of “coolness” that some tracks otherwise didn’t deserve. The Statler Brothers Flower On The Wall.

Will Cornell…..That’s a pretty broad category and hard to pick just one…but up in the top echelons would have to be anything Ry Cooder did, even if the film wasn’t that good. This soundtrack is still one of my favorites and the film WAS good–interesting they used the Keach Bros, Carradine Bros, Guests, Quaids, to play Jesse & Frank James, the Youngers, Fords, Millers. The music was pretty close to period perfect too. Ry Cooder The Long Ryders Soundtrack.

John Wilde…..Last Goodbye. Jeff Buckley. Vanilla Sky. Also Whitney Houstons incredible cover of Dolly Partons “I will always love you”  From the movie The Bodyguard and Mrs Robinson.. Simon and Garfunkel. The Graduate.

Mick O’Dowd…..May The Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose!

Matt Thomas….’Together In Electric Dreams’ – Phil Oakey & Giorgio Moroder

Karen Sweatman…..You Could Be Mine by Guns ‘n’ Roses from Terminator 2 and Kiss From A Rose by Seal are two off the top of my head that I love.

Alan Esdaile…..Here’s one you may have forgotten about. From the film ‘If’ with Malcolm McDowell.

John Wilde……Brilliant Alan. A favourite

Jim Breeds…..Anything from A Hard Day’s Night

Lauren Gower…..Johnny Cash-‘when the man comes around’ from the re make of Dawn of the dead. Or Voodoo Chile by Hendrix from ‘Withnail and I’

Will Cornell……I think anything Morricone is fair to say excellent and there really haven’t been any good boxsets of his best stuff. I have one that has the Spaghetti westerns, Mission, Once upon a time in America…but no Two Mules for Sister Sarah is a grave oversight. Maurice Jarre soundtracks are excellent too, esp the David Lean films. The Lalo Schifrin 2 cd set that came out last year was good, but their version of the Mission:Impossible theme was live–not what you heard in the TV soundtrack. btw, Eastwood figures prominently in two of these composers works (Morricone and Schifrin) but he’s had a pretty good track record overall of tasteful soundtrack music–Roberta Flack’s “First Time” debuted in “Play Misty For Me”. “Bird”….and I have no doubt “Jersey Boys” will be pretty good. Our own band does “Rose of Alabama” similar to the way you heard it in “Josey Wales”.

John Storer…..would recommend the box set “Complete Edition” to Will Cornell – pretty much contains everything Ennio Morricone recorded. Lots of favourites mentioned above so won’t repeat them but would add :

I Should Have Known Better – The Beatles (A Hard Days Night)
If I Fell – The Beatles (A Hard Days Night)
This Boy – The Beatles (A Hard Days Night)
The Night Before – The Beatles (Help)
Another Girl – The Beatles – (Help)

Dry The Rain – The Beta Band (High Fidelity)
Shipbuilding – Elvis Costello (High Fidelity)
Fortunate Son – Creedence Clearwater Revival (Forrest Gump)

Love Letters – Ketty Lester (Blue Velvet)
Dancing In The Sheets – Shalamar (Footloose)
Regulate – Warren G &Nate Dogg (Above The Rim)
Boys Better – The Dandy Warhols (Good Will Hunting)

Patrick Lewis…..Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries and The End by the Doors from Apocalypse Now

Andre Martin…..How about ” Do Not Forsake me oh my Darlin ” from HIGH NOON with Henry Fonda ?

Gary Kinch…..about time John Storer was on FB 🙂 although I do understand why some folk aren’t interested. Yep Midnight Cowboy was a great film. Nilsson’s contribution appreciated here as well. Even my Jackie liked it and she won’t usually watch films with such a depressive theme.

Jim Hobbs…..How about Matt Monro’s ‘On Days Like These’ from the opening titles of the ‘Italian Job’.

  2. Hi, Gary … never been on FB because … well …. my three kids are! LOL

My social media adventures are pretty much restricted to Soundtracking (a “Twitter” style app for music obsessives like me) and now this site 🙂
